It looks like Kenny may be interested in Graves...

How about a Vizcaino for Graves swap with the Reds picking up most of Graves' contract?  Otherwise, Graves will likely clear waivers and the Reds will get nothing for him.

Grave has said that he wants to go home and play for the Marlins, and they do need bullpen help there. So I don't think we're going to get him, plus I couldn't really see the Reds wanting Vizcaino greatly, nor would I see KW trading him.

I think there will be some sad-sack ballclub willing to trade for Graves and he won't even make it to waivers. So, now you have to ask yourself if this is a guy Kenny would be willing to trade for and the only guy fathomable would be Vizcaino. If you were the Reds, would you want this guy in your pen? Doubtful.

With Graves' salary? I doubt it. The Reds would have to pick up some of it.

Bingo. Ain't happening unless he makes it to waivers and even then it sounds like a "strechhhhhhhhhhh".

Here are the options on Graves...

The Cubs and others have two options for getting Graves, who is owed about $5 million for the rest of this season:

They could trade for him in the next 10 days, asking the Reds to eat a large share of his remaining salary. Graves also has a mutual option in the contract for next season at $6.5 million, which a new team could void at the end of this season.

They could wait for 10 days, after which time Graves is a free agent and the Reds will have paid him all his contract money. The signing team could then make any deal it wants with Graves, from anywhere near the prorated minimum, about $250,000, to more than $1 million depending on the number of suitors.

The only way the Marlins could afford Graves is if they waited the 10 days until he became a free agent. Isn't their payroll pretty much tapped?

Yeah it is, but it'd be more likely the Mets or Cubs would trade for him before us.

Oh, I agree with an emphasis on the Flubs.

To answer the question, no the Sox don't pick up Danny Graves. Bajenaru throws better than Graves. Adkins even. Wouldn't help the Sox at all

Closing interest: When Guillen heard that the Cincinnati Reds designated one-time closer Danny Graves for assignment Monday, the White Sox manager responded with a rare one-word answer.

"Wow," Guillen said.

The Reds have 10 days to trade Graves, which doesn't seem likely to happen. Otherwise, the right-hander becomes a free agent. Graves has an ERA of 7.76, but posted 10 saves in 12 opportunities and was an All-Star in 2004.

Teams looking for a steady bullpen presence, such as the Cubs, likely will be interested in Graves. Although it's general manager Ken Williams who makes the personnel moves, Guillen likes what he has on the staff for now.

"He's had a lot of success," said Guillen of Graves, who earns $6.25 million this season but if he clears waivers, could be signed for a prorated total of the $316,000 minimum. "We don't need somebody here. If we need somebody, I know Kenny Williams is going to get it. I think right now, we're fine. We're in good shape."

He would be a great pickup to add to our bullpen huge upgrade over Neal Cotts

Cotts is a lefty that's in his 20's and throws 90, plus makes peanuts.

Graves is a righty with no fastball and no control, plus he makes a ton.

We already got Vizcaino to b**** about ;)

NO GRACIAS :nono
