I can't help it... Does he have the same upside and the same promise as Joe Borchard? Sorry couldn't help it. We got burned on giving borchard big money, we won't chase this guy.

 

Danks isn't getting $5+ million bucks, but I'd hope the Sox are offering right around $2 million...

 

Simply put, they get this guy in a Sox uniform, and this turns into a real, real good draft, without having any sandwich picks/2nd rounders -- which, would be extremely impressive.

And the draft is over. I'm proud to say I bailed after about 10 rounds today LOL. The FutureSox writers will have more player info and continued updates on signings over the next few days.

Kind of makes you think they will trade some pitchers this year. These guys can backfill.

If Danks gets signed (and I certainly hope that's the case), one of Anderson/Sweeney/Young/Owens could very well be moved at the deadline. Put one of em with Sean Tracey, and you could definitely get someone who'd make a big impact for us.

He originally said he wouldn't sign unless he got 2.1 million to match what his brother got, then later backed off and just said he was going to college no matter what.

 

I'd throw $2.1 million at him and see what he says. Broadway will be an easy sign, as will Brooks and Clayton. They should have a lot of budgetary cash on the table depending on what happens with Cortes/Cunningham...

But either way we will have plenty of money available with all the likely draft-and-follows we drafted this year. If we don't sign Danks, we can sign more of the DAF guys right before next years draft.

Well, guess who ponied money up? King George signed Austin Jackson out of the 8th round for 1 million. He was a top-flight talent who played like s*** his senior year after committing to play point guard for Georgia Tech... Gonna play baseball now...

He actually had a few quotes in the local paper about prioritizing baseball with the draft and having hoops as a fall-back option. He did play like a dog most of his senior year though...

 

The story about him hitting a HR LH'd in his only career LH'd AB was pretty amazing though... He is a legit 5-tool talent if his head is in the game...

This of course means something to me because he pitched for my high school, though actually attended school in the town of Linton, is like a town of 2,000.

 

So that's kinda cool. Basically guaranteed to be a superstar now atleast.
