So, a question for you all:

I know it's highly unlikely that he'll sign given his commitment to Texas, but who knows when you throw some money at a kid. Anyways, do you think our current Outfield depth would help or hurt our chances of signing him? Would he be scared off that he wouldn't be the 'top guy' in our system?

To note, I would be ecstatic if we could sign him.

I'm thinking he will wind up as a great 1B prospect personally, and we are dying for some prospect depth there. So if we make the right sell, I think it could work out. Oh and the money wouldn't hurt either ;-)

Can the Sox offer him some kind of deal where, after his baseball career (however long that is) is done, they'll pay for all of his college expenses? I assume he's already on a full-ride to Texas anyways, but maybe that would appeal to him, as well as become an instant millionaire?

Usually a part of the deal with college-committed kids, if not all kids who haven't finish school.

Nope. I don't think any prospect is "scared-off" by depth in baseball. Injury, trades, people not making it are just too common and frequent for that to be of legitimate concern.

If the Sox got him to leave Texas and come play in the minors for us, ALL HAIL THE GREAT KW :notworthy lol.

I hope we can sign him but it sounds like he really wants to play for Texas.

I came up with a scenario about 2 weeks ago asking if we should take Danks in the 3rd round if there was any chance of signing him. We got him in the 19th instead. Here's hoping........... :pray

Anybody have any idea on when will know for sure he won't be accepting any offer from us?

Once he officially attends classes than he's pretty much done. Sox won't be able to negotiate with him. Its either that or when he registers for classes.

I'm pretty sure its when he actually attends his first day of class. I remember some other guys in the past that had registered for classes, but they never attended classes and kept the negotiations open. It would just suck if negotiations broke down and they entered class 2 months late.

i'd feel better about our chances if his brother wasn't a top prospect for the rangers. i assume he got a pretty coin for being their 2003 1st-rd pick, and just from a practical standpoint, it seems to me more likely that a guy'll sign if his family could use the money. but knowing that his brother got a big signing bonus (and is on the fast track to the bigs) and thus that his family should be comfortable, jordan'll have less incentive (other than wanting his own loot [which could be enough]) to sign even when we throw big money at him.

Well, Jordan originally had a demand of matching the 2.1 million his brother got, but backed off when he sent the latter asking teams to not draft him at all.

I would offer 2.1 million if I were the Sox and call it a day. If he accepts, great, if not, fine...

We are thinking exactly the same on this. Heck, I would throw caution to the wind and offer him $2.2 million and see how it goes.

I don't think they'll sign him but the White Sox are a very persuasive group and know how to put on the full court press when necessary. I wonder if this is a case where even Reinsdorf might get involved. Doubtful, but it will be interesting to see how this story unfolds.

He might just do so. Maybe I'm overrating this kid, but signing him turns our draft-class from an average (maybe even worse) one to an above average one.

Oh, and just a heads-up, Carrillo is pitching on ESPN in about eight minutes. They're in a rain-delay right now, but the ESPN broadcaster just said they're planning on starting a little after 2 EST.

Awesome, I'm watching.

Looking forward to seeing him pitch.

Too bad he isn't ours. Life goes on I guess.
