Jabroni
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=2&cset=true "Guillen irked Marte didn't disclose injury" By Mark Gonzales Tribune staff reporter June 9, 2005, 10:00 PM CDT SAN DIEGO -- The White Sox's 15-5 romp at Colorado late Wednesday night wasn't entirely full of laughs and smiles. Manager Ozzie Guillen was disappointed left-handed reliever [/b]Damaso Marte[/b] was less than forthcoming in revealing discomfort in his left biceps that caused him to be pulled in the seventh inning after facing three batters. "I appreciate when my players tell me or my trainer when something is bothering them," Guillen said. "I'm not a magician. I trust my players, and I hope they trust us. "In that situation it [an injury] can get worse than what it is. I don't get mad, but I get upset when one of my players doesn't let the trainer know what's going on. We're tasking a risk." Guillen said he could tell from Marte's body language he wasn't feeling comfortable after throwing a ball to Todd Helton with the Sox nursing a 5-4 lead. Marte wanted to throw another pitch, but Guillen refused and summoned Cliff Politte, who walked Helton but struck out cleanup hitter Preston Wilson to end the threat. "[Marte] is a big part of this team, and I hope he understands that," Guillen said. Marte, who is listed as day-to-day, indicated he didn't believe the injury was serious. Marte had yielded at least one hit in each of his previous five appearances before Wednesday's game, in which he pitched two-thirds of an inning, yielding only a walk. GoodAsGould
Ozzie was mad last year too I believe at a player hiding an injury, I think it was Jose Valentin trying to come back too early, I personally didnt mind since it meant that willie and uribe were starting... they had such good chemestry it seemed last year for awhile. southsider2k5
Its another good example of Ozzie looking at the big picture. It is better to have Damaso miss a game or two in June, vs having Damaso go out and seriously hurting himself and missing a longer stint. I understand that there is a lot of pressure to be out there and perform, but why can't the players use the same logic??
southsider2k5
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) I understand that there is a lot of pressure to be out there and perform, but why can't the players use the same logic?? Especially for a guy who is proven, I'll never understand why. I guess it is the competitive nature of these guys.

Dick Allen
Pitchers feel pain all the time. Marte might have thought this was typical pain. You really can't blame him for not telling anyone about it. Danny Wright was told there was nothing wrong with him, and he required both shoulder and elbow surgery. Lorenzo Barcelo's attitude was questioned by KW after he complained about continued pain, and he wound up having major surgery.

bjm676
This may explain his lack of effectiveness lately. I tell you, if we get the Damaso of '03 and the Shingo of '04 all that's left is Vizcaino.
