June 22, 200520 yr Its important that we solidify our pitching staff for the playoff run and hopefully the playoffs. I would like to see a trade for Zito, and move El Duque to the pen for spot start and long relief. El Duque is a quality playoff pitcher, and having him on the roster at playoff time is an absolute bonus. I think Zito can be had for a quality prospect and a mid level prospect. His stats this year are not too good, but he is on a s***ty team. He still has one of the best if not the best curve balls from the left side in the game. What are your thoughts?
June 22, 200520 yr Why would we want to give up good prospects such as Anderson, McCarthy, Tracey or Sweeney for a guy like Zito who sucks. It's been a while now since he's been good, hell he sucked last year on a good team and with the other two of the big three in the rotation at the same time.
June 22, 200520 yr I like Zito and think he's pitched better than his numbers indicate. Started pretty rough in April (6.60 ERA) but has pitched well the last two months: May- 3.49 ERA, .219 BAA June- 4.13 ERA, .216 BAA There's also been a couple of games where he cruised through 6 innings (against us and Philly) and got hammered in the 7th. His bullpen hasn't helped him much either.
June 22, 200520 yr How much do you think Billy Beane is going to want for a former Cy Young Award winner? Yes, it's been a few years since he won it, but he's going to use that to get more. For lack of a better term, Beane is going to get an ass-load of talent for Barry Zito.
June 22, 200520 yr QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) How much do you think Billy Beane is going to want for a former Cy Young Award winner? Yes, it's been a few years since he won it, but he's going to use that to get more. For lack of a better term, Beane is going to get an ass-load of talent for Barry Zito. exactly, and id hate for us to give up too much talent to them, we cant afford to keep trading prospects
June 22, 200520 yr Zito's numbers the last few years are not very good...like someone else said, if we get 2002 Barry Zito, sure, otherwise, I'll pass
June 22, 200520 yr Like Radke his 2nd 1/2 is always superior to his 1st. Career Pre-AS: 3.76E, .247BAA 23W-16L vs Pos-AS: 3.16E, .216BAA, 25W-12L 2004 Pre-AS: 4.62E, .282BAA, 4W-7L vs Pos-AS: 4.32E, .242BAA, 7W-4L 2005 Pre-AS: 4.66E, .234BAA, 3W-8L, .686 OOP, 69K's Past 3 yrs 491K's, .233BAA, .303OA, .666 OOP His era is not indicative of how well he is pitching. 2005 NPERA 3.52 (16th ranked) 2004 NPERA 3.82 (20th ranked) 2003 NPERA 2.66 (3rd ranked) 2002 NPERA 2.72 (5th ranked) No he's not a CY pitcher any more but he's still a solid #2/#3. He's still capable of a dominant start when you need one. Edited June 22, 200520 yr by JUGGERNAUT
June 22, 200520 yr 1) Zito needs Rick Peterson. 2) Zito is most likely headed to Philly. 3) If we acquire a starter, I'm of the view Miguel Batista is the guy to look at now. Could be had for a package that wouldn't involve our "major" prospects. J.P Riccardi would be interested in college pitching like Tyler Lumsden and Ray Liotta for example.
June 23, 200520 yr QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) I like Zito and think he's pitched better than his numbers indicate.
