Try to be nice to some people and they forget about it at the most convenient times for themselves...

OK.. we have a dog walker. No big deal, $10 a day takes them for a walk, gives them fresh water, etc.. Usually this is just M-F but sometimes we need her on the weekend when my folks can't stop by and let them out.

Soooo..

Yesterday we get home to a note asking us to pay her tomorrow if we are off on Monday... in her note she says "it's $110 (we pay her 2 weeks at a time) because I came by on Sunday for you..."

So I respond.. "wait Sally... you did not take care of the dogs on 6/20 and 6/21 so that's -$20.."

She just calls me and says.. "no.. you still have to pay me because YOU called me off.. not something I did."

Now.. I would normally not have an issue with this.. but back in early May she had surgery and was off for 3 days so we had to drive all the way home at lunch and let them out ourselves for 3 days.. plus she was out sick for 2 days besides.. and we did NOT deduct any $$ from her. I did this because I want to have a good relationship with her in case we ever have an emergency and need her to go by on a late notice.. So much for that. Ugh.

$10 a day for walking a dog? Where the hell do I sign up?

Tell me about it..

But she does a lot with them (walks them, plays with them, etc..), and it's a great help that she does it. Otherwise we'd have to drive home everyday.. which is 30 miles each way.. then stay for a while. I'd be taking 2+ hour lunches everyday.. that's not an option.

And that is for 2 dogs so I think it's a pretty fair price.

Dude, in my neighborhood, the girl walks like 5 dogs at once and she must have 3 different groups. Do the math. Perfect job for a College kid.

I'd be telling her where she could stick it personally. :finger Nice short term selective memory.

Yea.. that's the popular choice with Zooks... everyone else in the area is a couple bucks more.. but I'm shocked to see some of the really professional websites. Sally is insured and bonded.. but some of these walkers are big time businesses with 4 or 5 "employees". I think I'm going to bite the bullet and change though. I can't be stressing about this, and the dogs have to go out.

The thing is at that point their billing will also be done more professionally. They won't be able to play you both ways. They will also have people to cover if someone is sick.

I'd say listen to the poor man :P

As long as you stop peeing in it.. you can use the pool. No travel allowance. :P

You're already wasting far too much money on animals...

Pay the poor girl the extra $20 if you feel she does a good-to-excellent job, but not if she's rather lousy...

No peeing in the pool = no deal.

Sorry.

A known commodity that is working is far better than the unknown. I'd give her the little extra and say establish the ground rules so this doesn't happen again. I had a similar situation with my housekeeper, who interestingly enough also was making $10 per day. Plus room and board.

She already got paid for 6 days she did NOT work. No more. Yikes.. $10 a day for your housekeeper.. that's a lot here. Is that the norm there?

By the way.. this isn't some young kid saving for college or a new outfit.. this is a 50 year old woman.

In going over the days again she didn't work the 4 days my sister was here for the wedding either so now it's 10 days she was paid for and not worked..

I'm not wanting to be a b**** here.. but come on.. what's fair is fair. I was hoping for a little you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours, but apparently that's not what's happening here.

I feel uncomfortable because I am not one to be a tight wad with money.. especially since she does do a good job. But when you are overpaid in some instances isn't it kind of a slap in the face to your "employer" to be s***ty to them..? Like yesterday.. I got off a half day to goto the game.. there was a project that had to be done this morning so I came in early to finish it as the request of my boss. I guess I could have said no.. I start at 8.. but figure I'd get more bees with honey..

I guess I'm just a bit baffled by her note. And request to be paid early as well.

:huh
