Texsox
Gallop Poll NEW YORK Gallup reports today that its latest poll found that one in three Americans “believe in ghosts.” The numbers: 32% of all adults say they believe that “ghosts/spirits of dead people can come back,” while 48% do not, and 19% are unsure. An even larger number of Americans believe that houses can be haunted, with 37% holding that position, 46% saying no, and 16% not sure. There's an ideological twist, with 42% of liberals saying they believe in ghosts--but only 25% of conservatives and 35% of moderates saying this. Belief in ghosts declines with age, with 45 of those 18 to 29 sticking to that, while only 22% of those 65 and over holding that view. The poll was based on interviews with 1,002 adults, with a plus or minus 3% sampling error.
Wong & Owens
For years, I worked as a tour guide for a charter service-- one of those dorks that stand at the front of a bus with a microphone. One of the most popular types of tours I gave were "haunted" tours. I never saw/heard/felt anything. No Resurrection Mary, no phantom car at BAchelor's Grove, no mysterious footsteps at the Red Lion, etc. I think it's people's imaginations running amok. Soxy
I wouldn't call them ghosts, but I do believe in that people's spirits can remain around. Shortly after my grandpa died (early from cancer) my grandma went upstairs and turned off the light in his bedroom (they always had the Ozzie and Harriet separate rooms). About 15 minutes later she noticed it was on again, so she turned it off. This happened about 3 times. So, she finally turned it off and unplugged it. Well, 15 minutes later it was on again, despite being unplugged. Weird. Also, after my grandma died the grandfather clock in her house would stop at the exact time the coroner put the time of death at. After we moved it out of that house it never did it again. There's been some other weird stuff like that. Dreams, apparitions too, mostly on that side of the family. But I do think the spirits hang around for a while afterwards. Like you, I've heard way too many stories from people I actually know to not believe in ghosts, spirits, etc. Anyone ever get a feeling like someone is standing right behind them? Everyone sees something out of the corner of their eye once in a while that can be attributed to a flash of light or something along those lines. But about a week ago I was looking through the freezer in basement for something to eat, and I swear it felt like someone was right behind me a little to the right. I turned my head quick and there was nothing there, but it reminded me of the new Amityville Horror. If anyone's seen it, I'm talking about the part where the kid goes to the bathroom at night. Kid Gleason
One of my friends was one of the foremost authorities on ghosts and stuff in the area. I went hunting with her one night and didn't find crap. I also used to do a website for an author: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Derby/2236/ And he is an expert on hauntings on the east coast, mainly Vermont. I am still undecided. Queen Prawn
Yes. When I first moved in with the Brain, I was sleeping as was our two hamsters. He was demoing a wall in the basement that had termite damage and while working he heard distinct crying. He ran upstairs thing either I hurt myself or one of our rats did (stinky butt senior was completely blind and would constantly fall from the second floor to the first in his cage). We were all asleep and there were no radios on and our tv was off. Considering the owner before the last lived most of her life there and did die there, he was thinking it was probably her. Heck if I was a ghost and saw someone like me now living in my house, I'd cry too lol.
Kyyle23
there is a 5 minute ghost documentary circling the internet. I cannot hyperlink it right now because I am at work, but it is in the extreme video section of www.ebaumsworld.com, and I am pretty sure it is called "Ghosts" Some pretty damn spooky stuff there. Last year there was a ghost picture from the Queens Palace in England, a man dressed in 1600's garb throwing open a door. Only visible through night vision. Controlled Chaos
Here's a weird and very true story... My dad was a fireman and just got home from his shift. His window is right next to my neighbors house. He went to lay down in bed when he heard "Mommy Mommy the baby stopped breathing" So he got up and ran next door...the lady opened the door and my dad's like "where's the baby" and she said "sleeping.....why...what's wrong??" and my dad said "I heard your daughter say the baby stopped breathing" So the lady is like "oh my god" and they run to the bedroom and the baby is faced down and not breathing...so long story longer... he revives the baby and all is well. An ambulance came and checked everything out. The lady was so thankful, but was like "you said you heard my daugter say the baby stopped breathing, but both my girls are away at camp...I'm the only one home." My dad was like "I don't know...I just heard a little girl scream and I ran over." Ghost? guardian angel? call it what ya want...it was f***in freaky.
