Neal Cotts

Featured Replies

Something that's going to be very crucial in this upcoming series is the use of the bullpen, going with the right pitcher at the relevant time.

Neal Cotts was used in game 1, and he got the job done. If there is ever a situation that calls for a lefty to come up to get an out, bring up Cotts, but don't let him face just that 1 batter, leave him in there for an inning at least.

Marte shouldn't be used, and right now is borderline to make the playoff roster or not. The Angels and Yankees have some good lefty sluggers, so Cotts will certainly be needed.

You're preaching to the choir here, dbaho.

I know, I know. Cotts just seems to be the most under utilized reliever, when he's one of our best, because he hasn't been here before, and he doesn't have the experience. Doesn't stop Bobby Jenks.

Yep, Cotts needs to be THE FIRST lefty out of the pen in any situation.

Hell, IMO he needs to be the only lefty in the pen at all.

So many of us have commented on this already it gets frustrating. :banghead

For some unknown and ungodly reason, Ozzie loves Marte. Why he doesn't go more often to Cotts is a mystery. I've heard the b.s. reason of Cotts' "delivery style" not being as effective against some hitters...as compared to whom? Marte? :bang

I think Ozzie went to Marte instead of Cotts because we had a 2 game and 2 run lead. He was still trying to get Marte straightened out because he thinks he'll need him. I think Marte has pitched his last game in a Sox uniform.

I still, even now, cant figure why Marte came in before Cotts the other day. We're VERY lucky the game didn't turn right there.

Marte needs to be watching the game on Tuesday in the dugout wearing his black shirt of the inactive. While Bmac should be ready to go.

Lefty schmefty, he cant get anyone out when he walks everyone.

Yeah, and on the rare occasion when he gets one over it gets hammered somewhere.

Agreed. Marte's been a bum and everyone and their mother knows it. When Marte shat his pants and gave up that single and two walks with no outs in game three I thought Boston would take the lead right there. Thank God for El Duque. I hope Ozzie doesn't ever again bring in Marte in a lefty sitiuation in a tight game when Cotts is available. We may not be so lucky next time.

C'mon, he gets his 1/3 of an inning, isn't that enough?

I think Ozzie likes going to lefty's who struggle. At the very begining of the season he went to Cotts a lot in the big game situations and he would let the inherited runners score a lot. Than when Cotts started turning it around his role seemed to decrease.

Ozzie must like the other team to get a lead off walk whenever he puts in Marte. But yeah Cotts needs to be pitching more often.

\\Interesting thought there YASNY. I am not so sure though now that Ozzie put him on the ALCS roster. I was leaning towards your idea, but now I wonder if Ozzie doesn't try and make him a Spring Training project? There isn't any doubt that when Marte is on he is very good and quality lefty releivers are in demand. But, he hasn't been good for awhile and I am thinking consistency here. was at that game in Denver when Marte got pulled because of his arm hurting so I am leaning towards an injury being the issue.
