SNL Tonight

Featured Replies

All the talentless hacks they currently have in their cast can't seem to make it through a god damn sketch without laughing at the f***ing camera, this in essence makes absolutely no f***ing sense seeing how what they're saying isn't even remotely funny.

does anyone have the video of Scotty on SNL? Please post if u do

THis was a great thread. I laughed at everybody's hatred of that pathetic show.

Gawd was that show horrific.

I thought that one new guy, Jason

Sudeikis out of Second City, has potential.

He was in that bad skit at the end about "Sharon" that guy in drag.

The straight man in the skit.

Has there ever been a funny skit when fat guys dress as women?

I wish TV would kill any skits with guys dressing as women.

NEVER FUNNY except maybe Tootsie with Dustin Hoffman which wasn't that good.

How many years has it been since it was remotely funny anyways?

5.

In 1999-2000, SNL had a "silver age" in which it was mostly funny. Especially the 2000 election stuff.

I think the main problem is that SNL's writing has really degenerated over the years. Skits go on about twice as long as they need to, with no payoff.

They've also had a pretty shallow talent pool of a cast in the past few years. I don't even think Will Ferrell is funny most of the time, and 'most' being outside of Anchorman, Robert Goulet, the Cheerleaders, and the Cowbell skit.

However, I'd love to see Scotty's cameo on the show. I don't have Tivo or even decent reception at my house. Anyone have clips to share?

Agreed. The root of the problem is not bad acting, but bad writing.

That said, as the former editor of a satirical newspaper, it is very hard to be consistently funny over a long period of time. Eventually, you find yourself developing gags that you know won't work, but you do it because you have to. It really hurts on the inside.

Saturday night live is only good every other decade.

The Kyle Farnsworth Theory X 10.

SNL was funny in the early 90's for me. But I remember my parents saying that SNL hadn't been funny since Belushi. I am sure in 20 years, the kids today will say how funny SNL was when they used to watch:

Rachel Dratch

Jimmy Fallon

Tina Fey

Darrell Hammond

Seth Meyers

Chris Parnell

Amy Poehler

Jeff Richards

Maya Rudolph

Horatio Sanz

Fred Armisen

Will Forte

Finesse Mitchell

Kenan Thompson

Dare I say someone will fondly remember "Steve, the Computer Guy", "Goatboy", anything by Will Ferrell, etc. I don't find SNL as funny as when the cast included:

Dana Carvey

Nora Dunn

Phil Hartman

Jan Hooks

Victoria Jackson

Jon Lovitz

Dennis Miller

Kevin Nealon

A. Whitney Brown

Al Franken

Mike Myers

Ben Stiller

Chris Farley

Adam Sandler

But that is why it has lasted as long as it has. It appeals to a young audience and continues to run because they find what in pop culture is interesting to viewers and use it in their shows.
