sorry guys.

Right now I'm an econ major, but still maybe going into finance/business administration.

I'm a sophomore.

How about Kramerica? :)

When I get a chance, i'll list off all the sites I used to search and give u a few #'s of people who may be looking...

Have you tried one of the Chicago exchanges? I know the CBOE does internships for sure, and I would bet the MERC, Board, and th CHX do as well. If you are interested I can find out some info for you.

- How about ketchup and mustard in the same bottle?

- Oh that sounds interesting sir. :D

SnB, I hope you have more luck than I had looking for Vacation Work. :P

The Chicago Exchange sounds like a good place though, we even learnt a little bit about it in one of my finance courses down here, because don't they still record transactions on a big blackboard or something?

A couple of the pits in the Mercantile exchange are still all done on paper, such as the Pork Bellys and Cattle pits. The great majority of that stuff is electronic though. The blackboards went out in the 70's for the most part. Even the markets that aren't fully electronic trades, are at least updated by computers for the rest of teh world to see.

If you ever come up here, make sure to see the trading floors. Since the SFE went electronic, I don't know where else you would see an authentic trading pit outside of Chicago.

I did an internship this past summer and it was definately a great experience/opportunity. I ended up talking to a few firm members at a Meet the Firms event (held at my school for accounting students interested in the big accounting firms) and met a few people in the business and asked about internships and they told me to email them there resumes. I did and a month or two passed and I got invited for an interview and lunch and all that good stuff. It was a few interview process, but everything was well worth it.

I was treated exactly like I would have been if I were a full time person (with the exception that they refused to work me more than 40 hr's cause if they did I'd have made about 40 bucks an hour). After the whole experience was done (I had a national training for a week and than a 5-6 week work period) they offered me a job (I know in my line of work thats typical and unless you really screw up an internship your going to get an offer). I didn't end up taking the offer, but I have a lot of contacts in that company and in the future if I want to go back there I'm pretty sure I'll be able to. So for all these reasons above, I definately commend you for taking the initiative and going after an internship (it will definately set you a notch ahead when you graduate and go after your 1st career).

As far as finding an internship, join one of those business clubs that fits into your major. I did and it was the best thing I could have done for my career (aside from get good grades). I was able to find out so much about my industry as well as meet tons of other firm members (from different firms) to give me an advantage over the competition (your fellow students). These clubs also get emailed with internship opportunities that open up and will email you (if your a member) which gives you a head start.

The other thing to do is go to your schools career center. THey should have a ton of internships posted on there and you'll just search for firms that fit in your industry.

If you got any other questions Steve, just ask and good luck in your search. I'm sure you'll get some opportunities :)

Good luck Steve, hope you get it. :)

Hey Jas, was that the experience at GT? It is probably a good thing that you didn't take them up on their offer because they are neck deep in all of the Refco stuff from what I am reading. I don't think they will send them the way of Andersen, but they are going to be in a for a big shake up if things continue down these tracks. Consider yourself lucky.
