Good move. He's not a great catcher, but he's a great bench player. Had some timely hits over the course of the year and worked really well with the pitchers (seemed to really get along with the players too). In fact, I expect him to get the bulk of the starts when McCarthy's on the mound next year because they have a comfort zone out there.
