Eyre's a good addition for them but I wonder if they overpaid and by the sounds of it they probably did.

The stuff we're hearing is 3/11, which is way too much for him. Like I recently said, I'm very thankful the White Sox didn't sign him for even 3/9.

Ya, I just read that, that's a lot of f***in money for Scott Eyre.

So what this really seems to mean is my brother's Scott Eyre autographed ball will double in value to some idiot Cub fan.

They should have gone with Mr. Rochester, although Jane is quite scrappy.

Hahahaha.

meh, they still suck.

scott eyre does not deserve the amount of posts about him that soxtalk has given him lately.

Scott Eyre will equal Mike Remlinger, watch. Jim Hendry = stupid.

Thats a lot of money for an average pitcher.

Welcome to cubdoom Eyre.. way to much money. Lets get Ishi .

Holy f***.

Quick, everyone get in line. Jim Hendry is giving away money! Check this out.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Free-agent reliever Scott Eyre agreed to terms on a two-year, $11 million contract with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

Financial terms of the deal, which includes a player option for the 2008 season, were still being negotiated.

"We haven't worked all that out yet," Eyre's agent Tommy Tanzer said. "There is going to be a signing bonus."

Eyre's contract calls for up to $300,000 a year in performance bonuses. He will receive $100,000 for 70 appearances and an additional $200,000 if he pitches in 80 games. There is also wording that would give Eyre additional money should he become the Cubs' closer.

How does Scott Eyre get all that money to begin with and also get a signing bonus and performance bonuses? He's a 33 year old reliever who had one good season. Jim Hendry is insane.

I don't think it can be said any better.

Bwahahahaha!!!

And.. the Urinal Hopefuls will continue to hand over their money to pay that salary.

:stupid

I think the Cubs just set Wagner's and Ryan's market value through the roof.

They might be paying more for Eyre in the last year of the contract than B.J. Ryan makes this year. Hell Eyre might make more than Ryan this year. What a dumbass.

Well, I can see how they got him so quickly and easily. I couldn't imagine anybody else outbidding that deal.

It's funny...he'd probably be, at best, the 4th best guy in the Sox bullpen.

I'm guessing the contract will look something like this

2006: $4 Million

2007: $6 Million

Buyout: $1 Million

DUMBASSES!

I think the article is wrong. It has to be $11 million total if Eyre picks up the third year player option.

the reason Remlinger's stats were so good with Atlanta was because he was used him correctly. Bobby Cox almost never used him against left handed hitters. In fact lefties had 68 at bats against him compared to 174 at bats against righties.

no i think i heard it was a team option. And buyouts usually don't go for more than $1 Million unless they are superstars.

To put it in perspective...

2006 White Sox Salaries:

Dustin Hermanson: $2M

Cliff Politte: $1.2M

Neal Cotts: $330,000

Bobby Jenks: Not available, but likely under $1M

Pretty sure their combined 2006 salaries will barely crack $4 million. And if Eyre's contract is what they are saying it is, he might make more than our big 4 combined next year. Ouch!
