November 21, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) I guarantee you he didn't win Mission Viejo and I doubt he won Lake Forest so I don't know how he did in the other cities. Both are very safe areas, although I must say I was surprised to see Lake Forest in there. There are other areas in South Orange County that I think of as safer and better, but Lake Forest is pretty small. :banghead
November 21, 200520 yr Interesting you mentioned schools, I agree that is a key concept. I believe financing schools is the single biggest problem in our education system. Higher property values assure better schools in the neighborhoods that have the resources to send their kids to private schools and hurt the poorer community and schools that need public education the most.

Well if its any consolation, the schools here year in year out demand more money from the taxpayers and everyyear it gets voted down with ease. None of them want to give the schools here any more funding. To be honest, I don't blame them, I think in a lot of instances people think throwing money at the school systems solves things, but quite frankly I think its how you spend the money and I think a lot of school systems could use some help with that.

And that is the problem as I see it. One one end in Texas you have Highland Park, TX where they required a PhD to teach science; at the south end there is Progresso school district, that just last year, could afford new Social Science books that show the break up of the Soviet Union. Same state. Which student will get the better education?
November 21, 200520 yr Wow Gary is only like 9th on that list... I'm glad I moved from there when I did... But I feel sorry for all of my family who still has to live there... It sucks...
November 22, 200520 yr Listed as the most dangerous cities are: Camden, New Jersey; Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri; Flint, Michigan; Richmond, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland; Atlanta, Georgia; New Orleans, Louisiana; Gary, Indiana; Birmingham, Alabama. At the other end of the scale, the safest are named as: Newton, Massachusetts; Clarkstown, New York; Amherst, New York; Mission Viejo, California; Brick Township, New Jersey; Troy, Michigan; Thousand Oaks, California; Round Rock, Texas; Lake Forest, California; Cary, North Carolina. One would think that they would try to categorize the cities in terms of size. Comparing big cities like Detroit, Atlanta, New Orleans, Baltimore, etc. to smaller cities/suburbs doesn't tell me a whole lot. On that note, I am mildly surprised that Birmingham is on that list. I do know that murders/homicides are up this year fairly significantly over the past few. There are some bad areas here, but by and large it is a very nice place to live. I mostly stay out in the burbs, but the downtown and southside areas aren't too bad at all, as long as you pay attention. But that is like any decent sized city.
November 22, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) And to think, I was considering going to Rutgers @ Camden.... Camden will be nice when Rutgers finishes taking it over like it did with New Brunswick.

November 22, 200520 yr If you factored raping shopping mall dummies into things then Sioux Falls just shot to the top of the list.
