December 8, 200520 yr Last year vs Left-handed Batter: 2.28 ERA in 61 games. 20K 8BB. I don't think the A's have resigned him yet. Strictly a left specialist as his ERA against righties is just bad.
December 8, 200520 yr QUOTE(TheHawkaroo @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) I don't think the A's have resigned him yet. Strictly a left specialist as his ERA against righties is just bad. He was offered arbitration by them last night and looks like they want him back. Athletics offered arbitration to LHP Ricardo Rincon; declined to offer arbitration to 1B Erubiel Durazo, 1B Scott Hatteberg, RHP Octavio Dotel and C Alberto Castillo. MLB.com is saying Rincon agreed to reject the offer to give himself more time to negotiate with Oakland. He's not a Type A or B free agent, so there won't be any draft compensation for signing him. December 9, 200520 yr Why do I feel like our standards for talent fell through the floor when we traded Damaso? I like the trade, but it sounds like the desperation of Soxtalkers for a lefty reliever is driving people to consider bottom-of-the-barrel talent. I'm waiting for someone to recommend bringing back Melido Perez and telling him to throw with his left hand out of the bullpen. Let's give a minor leaguer a shot instead of signing some 40 year old hack.

December 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Except he's a righty. didn't he get ejected for flicking the Umpire off or something like that. He was released the next day.
December 9, 200520 yr Jesse Orosco is available. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is he allowed to work with Social Security checks coming in?

December 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) Is he allowed to work with Social Security checks coming in? dunno but a clause in his contract will state that the club provide him with copies of AARP in the clubhouse.

December 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) didn't he get ejected for flicking the Umpire off or something like that. He was released the next day. Thats exactly what he did, thought he was getting squeezed and gave the ump the bird when Manuel took him out. He was released before he got to the dugout. One of the announcers, I forget who, later said that at that time they kept a picture of each White Sox player on the wall by the exec's sky box. A couple innings later, one of the aids came walking by with Paniagua's and said 'We don't need this one anymore.' Legendary...
December 10, 200520 yr I wouldn't mind looking at Dotel (don't know how much he's looking for). He's coming off an injury and isn't a great closer, but he'd have closers experience and could come in and be a good setup man (a great one if he's healthy). Plus if Jenks or Hermy falter you have a really good backup plan.

These are the kinds of guys that fit on the Sox...and if all else fails, I have no problem with bringing Kelly Wunsch back. Others I would consider: Shigetoshi Hasegawa Danny Graves Chris Hammons Antonio Osuna Edited December 10, 200520 yr by SoxFan1

Just don't look at his 42.43 ERA with the Nationals last season. Is Chris Hammonds the only decent lefty option left?

These are the kinds of guys that fit on the Sox...and if all else fails, I have no problem with bringing Kelly Wunsch back. Others I would consider: Shigetoshi Hasegawa Danny Graves Chris Hammons Antonio Osuna All losers. No offense. Graves was horrid this past year. Hammons (isn't he a lefty?) has no stuff and is washed up (maybe he put up good numbers, hell I never knew how he put up good numbers but he did a couple years). Shiggy hasn't been a good reliever in a few years Ben Weber is god awful Jeff Nelson is an old fart Dotel wasn't great last year, but he's still young, has a power arm, and has above average stuff (plus he's been able to pitch). He's actually got ability and consideringh is injury (and the fact that hte Sox have depth) I think he'd be a nice guy to look at. I have no idea if he's expected back at the start of the season, but he's be a nice insurance plan and could be a good arm in the pen (although I'm sure he'd want to go to a team where he'd have a better shot at closing).
