We aquried a LHP from the Rule 5 draft.. Maybe that is what we are doing?

we actually lost LHP in rule 5...other than that we got back tim hummel, a catcher and a right handed pitcher who was inteh AA portion of the draft

UH OH!

Well, Williams has disappointed me. Marte's trade was not as carefully planned as I envisioned. I thought there would be NO way he'd initiate a trade for Marte unless a replacement were ready underneath. It's not too much to expect this, right?

There's a lot of time left before the season starts.

Losing Marte is addition by subtraction. Im not concerned at all.

Should have added this on--of the available pitchers on the FA market who could serve as a lefthanded option, Myers was about it. Now, we're left with Rule 5, in-house options, or creating another trade. I'd rather have spent the money on Myers, overpaying or not, then give up anything else for another relief pitcher. And I'll GUARANTEE Williams will have to overpay. Rather overpay with money than talent.

I expect the scouting dept. will find us a young lefty arm from somewhere. If we carry 12 pitchers we can afford to go with a young guy with some untapped potential.

You can say that again. Read this:

The Sox barely fell short in their bid to land left-handed specialist Mike Myers, who agreed Thursday to a two-year offer from the Yankees.

"It came down to the Sox and Yankees," Myers said. "I was impressed that the defending World Series champions considered me, but I think this move will be good for me and my family and my career."

Enjoy another first round exit in the playoffs Mike.

Gives you an indication trading Marte and signing Myers was exactly the plan Williams had envisioned.

Personally, I never would have made the trade unless I was absolutely sure Myers (my intended target) was accepting our contract offer.

If Marte is "make or break" for our bullpen, we were in deep s*** anyway. I think this was a good trade regardless of the Myers situation.

I wouldn't go that far. You don't agree when he had it going he had amazing stuff?

Also he did the job for us in that long Series game.

I'm not against the trade though. Looks like we upgraded our utility spot even though Blum hit the shot heard round the world which I forever will applaud him for.

He has amazing stuff. Unfortunately, stuff means absolutely nothing with some pitchers.

EDIT: And who ever said it is an addition by subtraction, I completely agree.

Marte needed to GET OUT.

He was going to get booed all of next year at the Cell.

He was easily the most unliked player on the team by fans.

And we used him like a horse the past few years. He's starting to run out of gas.

It'll be good for him to rot in Pittsburgh for the next couple of years.

We don't need two lefties in the pen. Just use Cotts and Viz and we'll be fine.
