Chicago White Sox

Signed OF Anderson Gomes and LHP Chad Bentz. Traded LHPs Gio Gonzalez and Daniel Haigwood and OF Aaron Rowand to the Phillies for 1B Jim Thome.

Anybody got any info on him?

**Also, to note, this is from January 6th on Baseball America's transactions page.

I checked the Cube and found nothing. Probably just a scrub to take up some space.

He played in Japan last year and it looks like he played for the Norfolk Tides in 2003, that's about all I could find. DOB 3/12/85 if it's the same guy.

Are you seriously calling Anderson Gomes a scrub? What the hell are you smoking?

Name: Anderson Gomes

Born: 03/12/1985

Birthplace: Sao Paulo, Brazil

Height: 6'1" Weight: 185

Bats: Right

Throws: Right

Gomes played for the Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS (Iguchi's old team) from 2002 to 2005. He was converted from a pitcher to an outfielder in 2005. He supposedly runs the 100-meter dash in less than 11 seconds and has a good arm. The Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS released Gomes on 10/30/2005.

Can't say I've heard of many Brazilians playing Baseball before.

Looks like another speedy outfielder though. He's definitely going to start in CF and hit in the #2 spot for us then. :bang
