Traded LHPs Gio Gonzalez and Daniel Haigwood and OF Aaron Rowand to the Phillies for 1B Jim Thome. He was converted from a pitcher to an outfielder in 2005. He supposedly runs the 100-meter dash in less than 11 seconds and has a good arm. The Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS released Gomes on 10/30/2005.
