Almanza, 33, has a 4.82 earned-run average in 254 major-league games dating to 1999. He appeared in six games with Arizona last season, with his only blemish being a three-run homer served to Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr. Almanza also has pitched for Florida and Atlanta.
