White Sox add Almanza to mix for bullpen job

 

 

The White Sox added a sixth candidate to compete for the second left-handed spot in the bullpen Thursday when they invited Armando Almanza to spring training.

 

Almanza, 33, has a 4.82 earned-run average in 254 major-league games dating to 1999. He appeared in six games with Arizona last season, with his only blemish being a three-run homer served to Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr.

 

 

 

Almanza also has pitched for Florida and Atlanta.

 

He's a decent lefty.
