February 14, 200620 yr I started a thread on this earlier today but it looks like it didn't take. Virtually all the talk about Sox lineup changes have revolved around moving Uribe to no. 2 and Iguchi down to anywhere between no. 5 and 7, and some talk of putting BA in the no. 8 slot, moving Crede down to 9 to give the rookie a chance to see more pitches. But what to do with the 3, 4, 5 slots? We've got Paulie, a career no. 4 hitter, whose best years have been at that spot behind Thomas and no. 5 behind Ordoñez, and in whose limitid time at the slot hasn't produced as well at no. 3. We've got Thome who was ostensibly brought in to protect Paulie in the order, but is a career no. 3 hitter with his best production in that slot. We've got Dye who has hit everywhere between 3-6, and did well enough in the 3-slot to garner a World Series MVP. It'd make the most sense to me to bat them in the order of Thome-Konerko-Dye, but of course this is all conjecture because Ozzie spent the entire season fiddling with the batting order every few days anyway. With all this taken into account, I'd envision something close to: Podsednik Uribe Thome Konerko Dye Pierzynski Iguchi Anderson Crede Thoughts?

I agree with everything else.
February 14, 200620 yr I believe that should be the lineup 92% of the time.....but we have to trust the Wizard the wonderful wizard of OZ.
February 15, 200620 yr Sounds like the Sox brass want a 3-5 of: Dye Konerko Thome Can anyone else attest to this?
February 15, 200620 yr QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) Podsednik Uribe Thome Konerko Dye Iguchi Pierzynski Anderson Crede I think Dye should start the year at #3 because of how he did in the post season. Also he must run better than Thome. Also AJ should be ahead of Iguchi so the order goes right left right.
February 15, 200620 yr QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) Sounds like the Sox brass want a 3-5 of: Dye Konerko Thome Can anyone else attest to this? The trib had an article either Saturday or Sunday that implied Dye was the 5th hitter. That Oz might want some protect for Dye, so moving Gooch down would do that...Something like that.

If we're guessing: Podsednik Uribe Dye Konerko Thome Iguchi Pierzynski Crede Anderson
February 15, 200620 yr I personally don't see why there would be a benefit to putting Jermaine in the 3 hole. .380+ OBP in front of Pauly instead of a .330 OBP is quite a difference. Also, Jermaine provides solid protection for Pauly as well. What is the benefit for Dye hitting 3rd?
February 15, 200620 yr Pods Uribe Dye There would be a lot of 1-2-3 1st innings with those 3 going up there. With our ridiculous record when we score first, I would think you'd want Thome in the 1st inning, but that's just my opinion.

Dye is the third best hitter among Thome, Konerko, and Dye. He should bat fifth.

You keep the L-R-L with that lineup, you have a guy with a higher on base, and can protect him with both Paulie and Dye...it makes a whole lot of sense to me. But, just remember... "I make tha damng lineup"
February 15, 200620 yr Traditionally you put your best OBP at 3. Jim Thome ------.408 Paul Konerko---.349 Jermaine Dye---.334

February 15, 200620 yr The difference between the #3 and #5 hitter also means about 40-50 ABs a year. Would the Sox rather have Thome or Dye getting those ABs? It would make more sense to have Thome in that spot. I like: Podsednik - L Uribe Thome - L Konerko Dye Iguchi Pierzynski - L Anderson Crede Also, Mackowiak can come in and pinch hit to add another LH bat to the lineup.
February 15, 200620 yr There is no good reason to bat Dye 3rd. Thome and Konerko are both far better hitters than he is. The only argument being made here is that Dye batted 3rd last season - well, that was true because we didn't have Jim Thome (we had Jurassic Carl). With Thome in there, he makes the most sense, and Williams has said so. Edited February 15, 200620 yr by NorthSideSox72

I wouldn't put streak that in Dye's lap. Nothing on Dye, he's exactly what we need in RF and the 5 slot, but he just isn't in the same league as a 3-hitter that Thome is (assuming Thome is healhty).
