March 13, 200620 yr wow, who wrote that article? Tough to pick up on the Gload favoritism over Borchard.......
March 13, 200620 yr Author Definately a different opinion from mine, but its nice to have two sides. Everything I write on the main page goes with my belief that Borch is the better fit. OH, FourofaKind was the person that wrote it. He's going to be doing a weekly Who's Hot, Who's Not during the season. The stats are actually a day old because I'm really busy with school and didn't get a chance to update them. That said the way Borch is hitting this spring, he's really digging himself into a hole.
March 14, 200620 yr Im really loving what soxtalk is doing with the expansion great job. this is another great article
March 14, 200620 yr Thanks any and all comments are acceptable. Gotta love Gload's constistency. I can't see Borchard being as good of a bench player because he seems to be streaky. He's either striking out or smashing the ball. Gload has a simple swing and just puts the ball in play. Oh Jason i was thinking that maybe under the Authors name for our articles you could put our screen name so people can identify whose work they are reading. Just an idea. It was obvious that you favored Gload, because you made light of his obvious weaknesses on defense, and the fact that he has no real value to this team in the field. While saying that Borchard was weak on defense was a bit of a stretch.

While saying that Borchard was weak on defense was a bit of a stretch. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I noticed that. Saying that Borchard is pretty much a DH instead of a solid defensive outfielder is a bit of a stretch. He plays good defense in the corners and can even play some CF. He has decent speed, range, and a strong arm.
March 14, 200620 yr I hate to say this but we have a DH. We have 2 first basemen one won't be able to play til may. Gload is a better defensively than both of them. BUt at 18 million allocated to that first base and dh Gload will be the odd man out. I've never trusted switch hitters as much as true left handed hitters. Gload would be better as a lefty off the bench and can hit for average. GLoad as everybody has said is not a good outfielder. I don't know if you watch the same games as I do but I find nothing special about Borchard getting to the ball he does have a better arm and can play the outfield. I believe the 5 million inititial investment in Borchard is something that the sox want to recoup. The nod will go to Borchard no matter what Gload does. Edited March 14, 200620 yr by forrestg
March 14, 200620 yr Another point. Joe Crede will not be a free agent, allowing Fields to step in as starting 3b in 2007, unless the Sox release him. And that ain't happening.
March 14, 200620 yr I don't really see how Joe Borchard is not hot, but Ross Gload is hot. Borchard is hitting .227/.292/.545 with 2 HR and 5 RBI, while Gload is hitting .250/.318/.500 with 1 HR and 4 RBI. Not much of a difference there.. Nice article nonetheless.
March 14, 200620 yr I would have added Blakely and Reynoso to the Hot, and dropped Gload and Lopez to the Not. Blakely is batting .313, .389 OBP, .750 SLG, with 2 HRs, a 2B, and a SB. Reynoso has pitched 5 scoreless innings, with only 2 hits and 6 K's. Lopez has dropped off and has a 6.14 ERA in 7IP. His only saving grace is his 8:1 K:BB ratio.

This was wrtitten on Sunday and at that point Gload was hitting .333 IIRC and Borch was in the .100. It just goes to show you how quickly stats change.

He plays good defense in the corners and can even play some CF. He has decent speed, range, and a strong arm. Borch has some great tools, but I have seen him bumble more than one fly ball in the OF this spring. I wouldn't exactly call him a solid defender. But then, we have only seen a few games in ST, and aren't seeing the out-of-game work they are putting in, so perhaps that is a skewed view.

Borch is a very solid defender, he's having a subpar defensived spring but that's what spring training is for.

Like I said, I haven't seen him play much 'D' before this spring. I saw Gload crashed into the wall in LF yesterday chasing a ball, knocking himself out briefly. I didn't get to see the replay, so I don't even know if he caught the ball. I think those two are pushing pretty hard - as they should be.
