May 18, 200619 yr QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) Chris Getz and Valido could be our table setters. Or a player who is not yet with the organization or a player within the organization who has yet to emmerge as an elite prospect within our system. It's just so damn tough to project things like this when you're looking 3-4 years down the road.
May 18, 200619 yr QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Robert Valido if he gets his head out of his butt. Nah, Getz is the leadoff hitter for obvious reasons. But if you want someone to get his head out of his ass and could be our leadoff hitter and starting left fielder by next season and the future, then someone should slap the hell out of Jerry Owens cause that has his name written all over it.
May 18, 200619 yr you couldnt have owens as our lead off hitter when Fields is the one playing his position in left field. that's why the question was brought up, "who is going to be our lead off man?" It would have to come from 2nd base or short stop most likely being 2nd base since Iguchi's contract is up at the end of the year. if chris getz puts up good numbers he'd be the most logical. unless of course we land a FA in the off season at 2nd base that can lead off
May 18, 200619 yr I think there's also always the possibility if Pods does leave, that the Sox could go into the trade market to get a new leadoff hitter. For example a Jon Garland and Juan Uribe for Rafael Furcal and Jonathan Broxton type of offer, that could be mutially beneficial for both sides. Iguchi could be ok as a leadoff hitter, provided he can continue hitting around the .290-.300 mark. The 33/9 K/BB ratio he had before tonight's game however shows his plate discipline isn't ideal for the role. Of course if Sweeney was going to play RF for you (unlikely considering Jermaine Dye's form), you could always thrust him into the leadoff role kind of like how the Indians did it with Grady Sizemore, although that's a lot of pressure to put on a rookie.
