Joey Cora bit Jacque Jones?

Featured Replies

Allegedly, according to reports on the Score, Joey Cora bit Jacque Jones. I haven't seen anything posted about it here, though.

I guess Dempster had said that in an interview.

Well, Hawk did mention yesterday that in an earlier brawl Joey bit someone else...i guess if the shoe fits...

I remember Hawk talking about a brawl story yesterday, and he said Joey Cora bit somebody's leg in a pile.

Hey man, when you're Joey's size, I guess you have to use whatever means are available.

I'll tell you one thing about Jacque Jones, he may have set a record in quickness of a home run trot yesterday. I bet he got around the bases faster than a few guys who hit inside-the-park homers did.

Joey obviously didn't bite hard enough. :chair

Actually it was DJ who mentioned that Cora bit someone in a brawl, back when they played together in San Diego. Thats why I am thinking that these stories got confused, because Jacque Jones was interviewed after the game and didnt say a word about it. You would think if the guy got bit in Saturdays scrum, it would have been talked about immediately afterwards.

That sounds more like it...cause I heard Jacque in an interview too and he never mentioned it. he said something about he saw someone choking his catcher and he pulled him off. I heard some of what Dempster said and he said it was busch leage for Cora to get involved in the fray. He is on the other side of the white lines and should stay out of fighting. He can pull people off, but he shouldn't be fighting. I didn't hear him say anything about biting. So I don't know where it originally came from.

DJ said that Cora bit Daryl Strawberry because the pitcher was turning blue from being choked by Daryl.

I was at the game as well and he was running full speed on his flyouts. :huh

Dempster also said that Ozzie's kids were on the field fighting.... :bang

Jacque did tell Bruce Miles he saw Pods "choking" Michelle Barrett. Normally I'd take the Cubs' word on choking, but I have a hard time believing this one. :bang

Ozzie's kids are just as much part of this team as Augustin Montero is, if not more.

THe whole message board is..

Dempster has vehemently denied saying anything about the "bite" or Ozzie's kids. He lays it all on North and said he will discontinue his weekly interview with North. He also mentioned he plans to call Ozzie to straighten things out.

Well, at least it isnt Ozzie that has to call someone else to straighten it out.

Would you look at this, Kotex boy is fanning the flames of Joey Cora biting someone during the fight.

Oh, and did I mention Sox third-base coach Joey Cora, who helped run the club, was the topic of a radio report that claimed Cubs closer Ryan Dempster accused Cora of biting Jacque Jones on the foot during Saturday's brawl? This was reported despite the fact Dempster, while calling Cora's participation in the brawl "one of the most bush things I've ever seen,'' never referred to Cora and biting. Guillen, who can't leave the Cubs stuff alone, called Dempster "stupid'' for supposedly saying in the same radio interview that Guillen's sons shouldn't have been on the field during the brawl -- though Dempster never made the comment. Dizzy? Me, too.

If Cora did happen to bite Jones, forget steroids testing. Baseball's new crisis, given the interruptions of a coach and a squirrel, might be a potential tetanus epidemic. "I did not bite anyone in this fight,'' Cora said.

Let it be known Cora, a Vanderbilt man, does have a history with his choppers. Years ago, while playing for San Diego, he tried to be a team guy by biting the arm of an opposing player who was choking a pitcher. And if Cora did happen to bite Jones? "We're going to fine him a lot of money for biting people,'' said Guillen, rolling in laughter. "If you're going to bite him, bite him in the cheek or ribs, not in the feet.''

It is so easy to write columns when you only have to watch the game and post-game on Comcast. Mariotti doesnt have to leave the house.

Mike North is the instigator. I listened to the tape he played this morning, and he WAS the one who asked Dempster if he knew that Cora "might have bitten" Jones. Now North is acting as if he is not in the wrong here. North and Moronaughty are just the same. They want to create controversy for attraction. The hell with both of them!

Jones obviously had spikes on. How could Cora possibly bite his foot? Marriotti is a dumbass, and jealous AJ took his spot as chief instigator in Chicago. He's desperately trying to get the title back, but these lame attempts show just how big a loser he is.

White Sox notes

Remember the children's game known as Telephone, where one kid tells his friend a sentence and then watches to see how the context changes by the time it gets to the end of the line with his or her buddies?

White Sox third-base coach Joey Cora can relate. Prior to Monday's series opener with the A's, a rumor took root concerning Cora having bit Cubs right fielder Jacque Jones during Saturday's bench-clearing brawl. By the time said rumor reached Ozzie Guillen's pregame session with the media, the White Sox manager also had heard it included a criticism of his three sons being involved in the fight.

All of this chatter stemmed from a Monday morning appearance made by Cubs closer Ryan Dempster on 670-AM The Score's morning show, hosted by Mike North, one of Chicago's top radio personalities. But the truth actually had a little less bite than the fiction making its way around the ballpark.

North asked Dempster about "hearing that Joey Cora might have bit someone," suggesting that someone was John Mabry. Dempster provided the following direct criticism, a critique without any mention of Cora's choppers.

"I thought that was one of the most bush things I've ever seen," said Dempster of Cora's actions during the fight. "You are on the other side of the white lines and can't play anymore, so don't come swinging fists and sitting there.

"Just break the fight up. Don't act like you are a player anymore, because you are not. If you are going to do that, you are going to end up getting yourself hurt one day."

Dempster added that first-base coach Harold Baines had to pull Cora out of the fight and remind him they were coaches and had to act that way. Cora declined direct comment, but did issue a rather comical statement through a White Sox spokesman.

"I did not bite anyone in this fight," Cora said.

When Cora was a player for San Diego, he bit the arm of a player who was choking out his pitcher during a fight to get him to release his arm. One school of thought is that particular story, mentioned on Saturday's FOX broadcast, was confused with Saturday's fight.

I dont know if this has been posted, but bat-girl did a hilarious lego rendition of the fight

Ah that's where I saw it....In the print version Mariotti doesn't say "Oh, and did I mention Sox third-base coach Joey Cora, who helped run the club" He says Joey Cora, who ran the club after Guillen whipped off his jacket and stormed through the tunnel"
