Italy's penalty was ABSOLUTE BS. Lucas Neill was on the ground, lying down, and the Italy Left Back jumped over him, Neill didn't move, and then the Italy guy theatrically fell to the ground. He should have gotten a yellow card for diving instead.

 

Materazzi getting sent off was fairly bordeline. The tackle itself wasn't that bad and probablly deserved a yellow, but he was the last man, which equals trouble.

 

But we've had refereeing decisions go against us all tournament. It's nothing new.

Funny how blatantly different the different sides see it. I don't see how you can b**** about the penalty that much. The defender dove, missed the ball, and got the man in the box. That equals a penalty and if you didn't have your Aussie bias blinders on you would see that. No one has argued with the call.

Actually, it was not a penalty kick. The Aussie defender fell and was laying almost completely on the ground and then the Italian forward dragged his feet and purposely tripped himself over the defender. If anything, it was a dive and not a PK. And this is from a neutral perspective.

Ghana has copmletely outplayed Brazil for 72 minutes but Brazil has gotten 2 goals (1 was a bulls*** goal where the player was offsides) and Ghana blew an easy goal.

 

Brazil's experiene and a little luck is the only reason they are gonna get past a Ghana team that played fantastic.

Adriano's offside no-call is questionable. You can't really tell from any angle if he was offsides or not but when he received the ball, he was even with the defender, but I do belive he was about 1/4 of a step ahead of him when the ball was passed. Oh well. 2-0.

If Ghana had Essien this might have been interesting. That first goal was just abysmal defense and a hell of a finish by Ronaldo. Nothing has really mattered that much after that.

Yep, plus I think Ghana is gassed. They played a very good 75-78 minutes of soccer.

So going by this score in the Ghana game today the US would have lost 4 or 5 to 0 against Brazil had they have made their way into this game? Kinda sad.

Rynalda didn't necessarily call it a penalty. He more so said the Aussie player made a huge mistake and the Italian player took advantage of it and did what was necessary to give the call. He basically said you have to tip your hat to the Italian player for doing so and obviously the Aussie player made a mistake (since it was a dumb slide tackle attempt inside the box).

Then we'll have to agree to disagree. Grosso jumped with his fornt leg and clearly landed on Niell's arm and dragged his back leg on purpose. But it doesn't really matter because it was called a penalty anyway and Italy won.

He expressed being ashamed at the effort, and I believe it was on Sportscenter that he ripped arena completely for being completely classless when he was pouting and making hand gestures towards the refs after the ghana match instead of congratulating the opposing coach. He said he was embaressed because of the disrespect and complete lack of sportsmanship that arena showed, calling him a "fat coach" who looked ridiculous pouting, and he could not wait 'til a a new coach was brought in.

Ya, he went from making excuses to flat out ripping the US team to shreds following the Ghana game. He was dead on too. He was sick of hearing excuses from Arena and called for the ouster of Arena. He was pretty harsh and Arena was being interviewed later on and pretty much was asked pointedly about the callings for his firing by the ESPN commentators (since they are former US soccer stars).

 

Lalas was awesome and his commentary where he would go off on Rynalda was great. Both really spoke there minds and they differed in opinions from time to time and it made great TV. I've been watching most of the games as I get to wake up to them out here on the West Coast and than catch WC live.

 

I also like the Euro analyst they've had on because you get a totally different perspective of things, since they won't have the US bias that our guys obviously will have.

We played fantastic against Italy, one of the best teams in this tourney so I see no reason why you shouldnt' be optimistic. The team was completely jobbed by s***ty officiating yet stuck in, played a man down and got a tie. It was a very impressive and gutsy performance, one in which Donovan actually showed up.

 

How was anyone supposed to know that Donovan would take a completely dive, our coach would be completely inept, and that Reyna (a so called veteran) would make rookie mistakes and f*** our chances. Its not like Ghana outplayed us, we had a s***ty call in the box and a dumbass play by Reyna aside from that the US didn't play bad against Ghana.

 

The Czech game was a complete f***ing joke though. Oh and Keller didn't step up and shine like one of the better goalies in the world is supposed to.
