July 18, 200619 yr Huge day for sweeney. Now it's time to start hitting on the road. His SLG at home is up to .522. That sounds impressive, but on the road he's just .327.

Trades no doubt will thin out some of the arms but the strong pitching is a nice luxury to have You only had to look at the Warthog rotation to start the season with Harrell, Russell, Whisler and Egbert to see that SP depth in our minor league system certainly isn't a problem at all, even without the likes of Gonzalez and Haigwood no longer there.

I was also looking at bullpen guys in Kanny and W/S. Guys like Jason Rice [66k's/ 22 BB in 55 ip, .188 baa], Oneli Perez [moved to w/s after having 42 k's/ 8 bb's, .172 baa in 36 1/3 ip in Kanny], Jay Marshall [32 k's/ 7 bb's, .211 baa in 41 2/3 ip], and Fernando Hernandez jr. [52 k's, 21 bb's, .226 baa in 43 ip] are posting some impressive numbers. Don't know much about them.

July 19, 200619 yr Now that we are seeing a couple promotions do you think there are more to follow? For example for players like Lumsden, Broadway, Whisler, Carter, etc.

For example for players like Lumsden, Broadway, Whisler, Carter, etc. Carter definately. The Sox--and Carter for that matter--need to see that he can hit non-rookie ball pitching. He should be moved up within a week or two if he continues hit. Lummy will remain in AA for the year, most likely, but I can see Lance getting a couple starts with Charlotte. Whisler could move up as well, but in the Barons rotation there is no room. But, if Lance gets promoted, Wes would likely take his place.

I do think Lance will stay in bham for the rest of the year though. Unfortunately for Wes, there really is no room at all in Birmingham.
July 19, 200619 yr I could see Malone getting promoted if anyone from Birmingham's rotation. He's been in AA for a while and is finally succeeding. Broadway and Lumsden are both in their first full seasons so I see no reason to push them to AAA. I doubt Carter will get promoted. The Sox tend to leave guys in rookie ball once they send them their in the first place (well at least guys that weren't drafted that year). Francisco Hernandez was putting up big numbers last year with Great Falls after a similar path to Carter and stayed there until the end of the year.
July 19, 200619 yr Lets not forget that trades in the next few weeks could open up a spot or two in Birmingham or Charlotte as well which would lead to a few promotions.
