July 30, 200619 yr would it be kinda like the grady sizemore deal where we can lock him up for 6 more years at 30 million dollars b/c hes not a FA yet?
July 30, 200619 yr The poison in this deal is Crede's back. I don't think it would be prudent to go 5-6 years guaranteed with a guy at that position who has bad discs, and I doubt the White Sox will. But somebody else might run the risk. Joe has done a wonderful job of diffusing the White Sox V Boras bad history issue and keeping things professional, but when it comes down to nuts and bolts, I predict length of contract will cause Joe to go FA and move on.

Unless he fires Boras, no. That would be much lower than what Boras would aim for. That being said, I do remember Crede saying something awhile ago about how its his contract, and that he isn't a tool who just listens to Boras for everything (not those words of course). I still find it unlikely that $30m/6 would happen. Edited July 30, 200619 yr by Felix

I doubt it. Crede can probably go to arbitration next year and get $5-6 mill IMHO. No way Boras lets him sign a deal for that long when he's 2 years awar from free agency. If Boras and Crede did jump at that deal it would tell me that something was wrong with his back. If Crede's 2007 is like his 2006 then he get probably get $7-8 mill in '08. After that he's a free agent and teams would probably sign him to a shorter term deal worth more per year. Bob

July 30, 200619 yr I just want to know from Kenny W that he is making every effort to keep Joe Crede with the Sox. If we are fair and Booooras is fair we can keep Joe for 4 or 5 more years. He is worth it and we need him. Josh Fields can play LF.

It's not exactly a pressing matter, time wise.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only team to outbid the Sox for PK was the Orioles, and they only gave $1 million a year more. Konerko really didn't take a home town discount.

Yea, its not like we have the rights to Joe Crede through 2008 or anything.

Konerko also was courted by the Angels, who offered just over $60 million for five years, and the Baltimore Orioles, who proposed a $65 million, five-year deal. Several other teams also made inquiries. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2242424 Edited July 30, 200619 yr by Felix
