Thome

Featured Replies

Why isn't Thome playing again tonight? Just sitting home out against a bad team? Or is there something wrong?

yeah I was just about to post the same thing... I bet he is hurt....

He hurt his right wrist and was sent to CHicago for treatment. However, the Royals reporters said that he is expected back in Kansas City later tonight and that he'll likely miss at least another game.

Damnit... we need him around these days.

I think it will do the team some good. We get a slap hitter up at the 3rd spot in AJ and another one in Gload (plus Gload gives us a bit more speed). I'm not saying good for the long haul, but I think with Thome out Ozzie will not sit on his hands and wait for HR's so we may see him get a little more agressive and that could really help us get jump started before we get Thome back.

Well the Royals announcers are now saying that Thome is at the ball park, so he's back from Chicago.

They said its unclear whether he'll play tomorrow so it doesn't sound too serious.

No way he plays tomorrow. Ozzie always rest a hurt player a second day.

Today's the second day.

The fact that they would send him to Chicago would indicate to me the Sox thought it could be a big problem. Maybe they didn't say anything because if he was hurt they probably would have tried for a big bat at the deadline and didn't want the price to get higher than gas.

Tendinitis in the right wrist. He had a cortisone shot in Chicago today. I have that in both wrists. I had surgery on one. I will probably have it on the other this winter. You can function but it can be hard to grip things. The cortisone may help for the time being but eventually, it will have to be addressed. I play golf three times a week if that gives you some idea of how functional you can be but hitting 400 ft. bombs is a little harder than hitting a golf ball.

Why do I look at Thome and thing any joint pain he may have is probably the gout?

:lolhitting

I think back to King of the Hill where Bobby Hill gets gout

The gout is a lot worse than tendinitis. It is crippling depending on what joint you get it in. It usually comes in the small joints first, toes or fingers, but if you get it in your knee (I did). It is bad, bad news. It is caused by high sugar levels. They crystallize in your joints. Brutally painful. But if it is gout, that is better news for Thome because it can be treated and the symptoms relieved much quicker than tendinitis.

actually having him out could be a blessing. He has been the main hitter in this lineup as of late and him being out could get the other guys to start hitting. Also, keep him healthy so when we play the tigers later in the year, he can pound the spiff out of them

There is no sense in which having Jim Thome out with a nagging injury will be a good thing.

I envy you. I get out once a month if I'm lucky.

That may be what I've had. I messed my wrist up playing football but it healed for the most part and now I'm getting some symptoms similar to what I looked up on web md. The past few months I've been playing golf about 3 times a week so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Oh despite all that golf (for the first time in my life) I still stink at times while at other times I'll hit an ocassional 300 yard drive right down the fairway, pitch onto the middle of the green and get a par.

Have you played strawberry farms down there? great course...I think some old Angel like Bobby Grich or Gary DiSarcina co-owns it.

Once, nice course. My dads friend was the attorney on that project. I think its Bobby Grich and a few other business men. ONly time I played it was with my dad though cause otherwise its too pricey.

Tijeras creek is nice and when I was younger they had a pretty sweet junior rate where it was a flat fee for all the golf you wanted to do over the summer.

Well I've had my chuckle for the day ........ thanks for the avatar.

The best course I have ever played in (or around LA) was the Babe and Ike at Pacific Palms. I don't think it is too far from Irvine as the crow flies. I have also played that parking lot that doubles as a golf course near the Rose Bowl and a course that hosted a US Open Qualifier last year... Lake something. But The Babe and The Ike courses are as challenging as you will get. Stunning scenery too. Makes 4-5 hours go by very fast.
