Ozzie was livid about Uribe's lazy throws lately. Good for Ozzie!

Yes. It's on the Sox site, too. Guillen was mad at him for getting lazy on the field.

This is exactly what I've been wanting out of Ozzie this whole year. Tell these guys that lackluster play isn't going to be tolerated. Keep your head in the game and focus, or Ozzie's gonna bust some skulls.

Guillen said he can deal with errors, but he thinks the .248-hitting Uribe has recently been taking his offensive struggles onto the field. That's one of the big reasons Alex Cintron started at shortstop Tuesday.

I believe this was a knock against Uribe last year and also the year we got him from Colorado. He gets lazy or lacks the inytensity day to day needed to be a star. (plus he swings goofy at bad pitches) B)

I'm pretty happy with Uribe this year, minus the defensive miscues he's been having. I think this benching will get his head on straight and we'll see even better D out of him the rest of the year.

 

He's right around .250, which is what I wanted out of him after that terrible start. I think he still has another hot streak in him this year, so I bet he'll finish up with an average possibly in the .260's and about 80 RBI. That's something to be happy with out of the SS position.

In the paper, Ozzie said he was concerned because the errors keep happening in innings after he makes an out at the plate. Personally, I don't think he's being lazy at SS. Rather, he's lost his release point on his throws. When he tries to lob it, it ends up sailing. Then, on the plays he has to gun it over to first, it's always in the dirt.

I'd say a lack of focus is a more accurate description of the problem. We've all seen Juanito's swing, does it look like it lacks intensity?

I think this goes back to spring training when guillen was making note of Juan being "fat" and out of shape. Juan's been off all year...

Come on guys, Ozzie knows nothing. Uribe has some elite defense, maybe the best in the league! Combine that with his amazing prowess at the plate, and we have a stud SS!

always appreciate Juan for the two final plays in Houston last season.

 

But ... he does cruise control it at SS too often. Hope Ozzie sends a similar message to a few others, starting with Pods.

Everytime I see him play SS, he looks out of place. Doesn't have very good range either, IMO. I think he'd be better at second, and have Pablo play SS.

I put the laugh icon up because I thought your comment about "not having very good range" was said about Uribe. You're right; I don't think Cintron does have very good range, either, although it's perfectly acceptable from a backup player.
