September 17, 200619 yr I just finished watching ESPN Outside the lines, and they did a story about Adam LaRoche. He has been given permission by MLB to take a banned stimulant because he has A.D.D.He was hitting like crap for the first couple months of the season, but when allowed to take the stimulant in June he has hit in the .330 range with 17 hrs.I think this could open the doors for alot players to find even more loopholes to take performance enhancing drugs and give the opportunity to come up with new excuses.

Popular on the PGA tour are betablockers for high blood pressure. Amazing how many golfers have high blood pressure.
September 17, 200619 yr Isnt Scott Eyre in the same boat? Im fairly sure he has had to take A.D.H.D drugs to keep himself under control. Its a tough line to toe, because these guys have a serious problem and it is tough to let them get the help they need because it is considered cheating by the league.

September 17, 200619 yr There is potential for abuse when the league starts allowing medical exemptions for banned drugs. But it's difficult, when confronted by a player presenting a legitimate medical condition, to now allow treatment. Especially if that treatment basically brings him back up to level with everyone else. The banned substance program should prevent someone from having an unfair advantage, not preventing someone from getting to level fair.

But how could you ever really tell if someone truly has A.D.D.?It seems like its something a player can easliy fake.

That's what Doctors are trained to look out for. 2. Players can always find a Doctor willing to "help". 3. There is potential for abuse
September 17, 200619 yr Author Its like the murderer pleading insanity. There is always gonna be a doctor that will get on the stand and say the defendant was insane when he/her commited the crime.

Its basically one of the most overperscibed drugs in the world. We just give them away to bad children in hopes its ADD.

September 21, 200619 yr Ritalin is a useless drug. I was forced to take it for many years b/c of what I think was a bullcrap daignosis of ADHD
September 21, 200619 yr What exactly is the drug LaRoche is allowed to take? Ritilian, most likely. Scott Eyre takes it and attributes it to his success. My brother's friend downloaded a CSN clip of an interview w/ Eyre talking about his ADHD, and showed it to me. I'll see if I can host it somewhere. Edited September 21, 200619 yr by Cuck the Fubs
September 21, 200619 yr QUOTE(shipps @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) exactly. And they were talking about how the trackstars all of sudden developed narcolepsy, hence needed stimulants to stay awake during a race. The amount that they normally precribe for this problem is far below the banned level. In order for the drug to help a person without the problem is really high. like the female swimmer a couple of years ago who said she tested positive for high levels of testestorone because of her birth control pills. The birth control pillls do contain testosterone but she would need to take 300 pills a day to reach the banned levels. Remember there are a lot of banned substances but it is the level of the substance which is banned. Caffiene is a banned substance for Olympic sports. But the level which is banned equates to 100 cups of coffee a day. Even the olympic sports give waivers. This is basically for saying that be aware they may be some in the system but the level should be far below the banned levels. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Ritalin is a useless drug. I was forced to take it for many years b/c of what I think was a bullcrap daignosis of ADHD it's not useless. It's actually very effective. But it's like the other poster said, it's the most overprescribed drug because the MD uses it as a basket drug instead of getting the correct diagnosis. Even it didn't help you, you were probably just a problem child which didn't need the medical attention.
