I missed the game but it sounds like it was only Crawford on first. For infield fly to be in effect there has to be runners on 1st and 2nd or bases loaded (to protect against 2 outs by letting the pop up drop). HOWEVER, purposely dropping a popup or line drive is an immediate dead ball, the batter is out, and all runners return to their time of pitch base. Now, you can let the ball hit the ground and then attempt to field it and throw to 2nd (there is a risk here of the ball bouncing far away, etc, so there is no penalty), but contacting the ball at all and dropping it intentionally wouldn't get you your desired result.
