Javy

Featured Replies

Well it seems Javy has gotten his stuff together and is quietly becoming a go to guy on this staff...Finally starting to show us all why KW signed him to that 3 yr extension!

fo shizzle.

He has been coming through this year for sure. Buerhle-Garland and Vazquez are three pretty good parts to the rotation. Next year danks should be better and we will see who #5 is.

i see no reason to trade him. and in fact, i'd be a little upset if we did unless a big name like Kemp was involved.

Javier Vasquez is awesome. With every win I eat more and more crow and actually enjoy it. I'm so glad I was wrong about his ability.

You can tip me later for cleaning up your mess. ;)

Hardest thing to do is find starting pitching. As doom and gloom as it is around here, Buehrle-Vazquez-Danks isn't a terrible core to have for the next three years.

Yup. As awful as this team is right now, I still believe we can compete next season. Kenny has some work to do but with our core of SP, it's doable.

For the past 370 days or so Javier Vazquez has been one of the better starting pitchers in the game and to counter that Jose Contreras has been one of the worst. Odd.

Vazquez can revert at any time. I'm still cautious and guarded about him. Good for him, though. He's been damn good and I'm happy for him.

Trade Garland, keep Javy!

You can say that about 3/4 of the pitchers out there. Javy is no different, except if you ask most GMs they would say he has electric stuff and just needed to be comfortable and harness it.

I suppose compete and contend are two different things, but I still think there might be one too many holes to fill this off-season. However, Williams has proved me wrong before.

IMO, if we can find a way to fix the bullpen(which as brutal as it is, can be done) then we can at least be competitive and I believe we can contend. Now, I'm not saying I necessarily expect that, but I do believe that it can be done.

+1

With good starting pitching, you always have a chance. If Kenny can bring in a couple veteran middle relievers, we'll be in good shape with Mark, Jon, Javy, and Danks in our rotation.

What a complete change from being worried every time he got to the 5th to being a horse!

what i like best about Javy is he is a strikeout pitcher opposed to Garland who needs good to great defense behind him. Javy can be on a crap team and still K 8 people a game.

I have a theory about Javy which I have had thoughts about posting, so I'll post and the rest of you can get pissed off. Javy pitches better when the pressure is off. His best years were in Montreal when many thought he was a potential #1 or #2. Montreal's last several season were spent looking up at the Braves in the standings while the Expos hovered around .500. Javy goes to high pressure New York, a big signing, and they want him gone after one year. Javy goes to Arizona, who was a good team, but not a real playoff contendor in 2005. Javy's worst starts are early in the year and except those couple of starts, has a good year. Javy comes to the White Sox a year removed from the World Series and seems have regular sixth inning meltdown. Javy in 2006 started the year a little shaking, but has come on strong since ... the White Sox have fallen out of the race.

Here is my thought: Is Javy the type that thrives when there is no pressure. His best seasons were on .500 ish teams. Hopefully the White Sox have a playoff year in 2008 and Javy breaks the trend that I see.

I agree with both, but if we want to trade Jon now, I wish we would have last offseason so we could have got Bucholz, Tavarez, and Pence, the NL's leading hitter, from Houston.

i believe the deal was gonna be hirsh buccholz and tavarez (the same that they got for jennings) but it didnt go through because the sox insisted on pence instead of tavares, and the astros backed out

Danks will be the #5 starter. KW has an obsession with a top of the line starting 5.. i can see KW go after a veteran starter via free agency. I know many are expecting either Garland or Vaz to be traded but dont i see that happening.

im not so sure about free agency....i mean whats gonna be out there that will sign in chicago for KWs three years? maybe a guy like paul byrd, but that would only be a stop gap...i think its more likely a guy like haeger, floyd, gio or someone traded for dye/contreras or something would be a much more realistic option

What are you talking about? KW is a moron and an awful GM. He deserves no credit for anything this team has done in the past, or anything that it will do in the future...

This team will not win unless it can plug in youth to fill some of these holes. We simply do not have the money to buy our way out of every problem that appears within our lineup. It would be pretty darn silly IMO to spend $45 mil on your starting 5 next year, with 1 of them in their walk year, when you have so many other holes on your roster where you don't even have a potential young guy to step in (SS).

I am going to call your theory complete garbage. He pitched very well in April and May of last year, and he pitched well down the stretch until the Sox were eliminated. He was doing everything in his power to get the Sox back into the race; unfortunately for him, he received like 2 runs of support a game and was a sub .500 pitcher in the 2nd half.

I think it was really just a matter of adjusting to the league and getting comfortable on a team for once. Javy went from Montreal to New York, and then New York to Arizona, and then Arizona to Chicago in the period of 3 seasons. This is the first time he's spent 2 years in the same place since 2002-2003.

I love these types of threads too, BTW. I can't say I told you so until like September, but if he keeps this up, it will be fun.

I called out Vazquez back in May for being brainless, heartless and gutless. If he's still pitching decently in Sept as he has for June and July, then I'll retract my statements and offer up an apology to the board. Till then, I defer to the Wolf from Pulp Fiction: "Let's not suck each other's $*#@s just yet." :P
