This is a pretty good write-up on the behind-the-scenes stuff at Copenhagen. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009...ange-mark-lynas

Summary: China deliberately sabotaged the whole thing and made it so that Obama and the West were left holding the bag as the ones that blew it.

It's all about the money. As it stand s now, China makes out like a bandit with each new plant it build, and each new plant it doesn't build. If it builds a plant using newer technology, it gets the difference in carbon emmisions from new vs old as carbon credits, that it then sells to all the 'rich' countries to help ease their carbon guilt. And in doing so, Algore and the others who push these schemes the most, make a little commission on the deal. So China, who is building power plants anyways, gets paper wealth handed to them by the UN group thaty handles that crap. Then they sell those to Western companies for real dollars. Why WOULD they want to change anything? As if they dont get enough of our money as it is, thanks to all the carbon trading ecofreaks, they get even more moeny from the west. be prepared to bow to our Chinese overlords.

And just a slightly different though: Every time they mention that the 'rich' nations need to pony up cash for all the poor, struggling developing countries, how come China and India are not classified as 'rich' yet? That is the biggest farce in all this.

Because the US is the most evil and RICH country in the world. Rich f***ers never shared their money, and they MUST pay.

Its all right, once NIPSCO goes bankrupt, no one will have electricity anyway.

You'll just have to stop eating that electrified corn.

Nine countries in Europe combine resources to build an energy network, connecting wind, solar and wave power sites around the North Sea and northern Europe, in order to make better and more complete use of renewable energy. Since it uses various types of power spread over the network, it should create a more even keel energy source on net. Very nice. Cost, however, is expected to be $43B.

This shows both the great potential and great cost of getting out energy infrastructure up to date here, if we wanted to. Unfortunately, we are falling behind, and when we actually have to do it, we will have lost an opportunity to also make some money at it.

Bush-era limit that ran counter to scientific recommendations

Shocker.

This is a good start, but not enough: Obama unveils combined public and private spending plan to inject about $8B into clean energy tax credits for tech and manufacturing companies, said to create 58,000 jobs. Linky.

I don't care what the exact number of jobs is. That sort of thing has to be our future, or we will be in deep s*** long term (as opposed to short term, where we are already in deep s***). We should be spending 10's of times this amount on similar efforts, and should have spent that much less on temporary construction jobs in the Stimulus.

We only really spent a pittance on construction jobs in the stimulus too.

Now I'm curious - what exactly did all the money get spent on? I know some of it, but I'm wondering if anyone has found a good financial accounting of it, by category, anywhere.
