Describing Soxtalk to friends...

Featured Replies

off shoot of the online v. real life.

how do you describe this place to people? From time to time (ok...ALL the time) I talk about something that happens...but there's always a preface:

"So there's this white sox message board that I talk on but never about white sox stuff...and.... happened"

what's yours?

First rule, never discuss Soxtalk

i've introduced a handful of people as my "internet friends" from here.

I've only met one person from here. What I'm getting at is that soxtalk is hard to describe to people and almost feels like the breakfast club... I just can't explain it to people on the outside.

If the person is a Sox fan, "You know what a message board is, right? Well, go here, Soxtalk.com. You will get lots of news, rumors and discussions about the Sox, and even info on the minors and draft picks. Really good stuff. And if you feel like it, you can get into other discussions as well with a wide selection of people, that differ widely on most issues other than Sox fandom. While it often gets pretty heated, it is usually civil. Usually."

I've introduced a few frineds who grew up here but are now spread across the states to this site. I know 2 or 3 of them come here, but don't know if they have ever registered. In fact, the one friend occasionally brings up thnigs I have said here in our conversations, so I know he is at least lurking around somewhere. Hi Eric!

I find myself building it up to people so I dont seem wierd for being on it so much.Like I will say" I can talk to sox fans all over the world at all times, and I can talk to them about anything knowing we have a common interest with the sox".And I back up the world part with DBAHO so Iam not lieing, but then I end up sounding wierd anyways so now I just tell people Iam looking at porn.

Exactly, and the second rule is I don't act on Soxtalk at all like I do in real life. This is a good place to argue stuff and that's it. :)

I have a few friends who lurk but its mostly on the Bears board and when I show them some of the stuff in Slam and the buster they say it would be annoying to get into arguments with people you dont know over the internet.

Well I do my best. :)

It was bit harder for me to tell my high school buddies that I had 20,000 posts on a baseball message board mind you.

There idiots, what's their email addy, let me talk to them

i usually just say something like... "so there's this white sox message board that i go to and ..." except usually i'm cut off with a resounding chorus of "wow, you're a loser"

"So...picture a bunch of Trekkies wearing White Sox gear and on a message board...now make them REAL geeky...then you're getting close."

It's like playing a lot of Dungeons and Dragons, except not quite as cool.

Yeah...you keep telling yourself we are your friends if it makes you feel better.
