How did Gavin do?

The line for him says 3 IP, 2 runs, 3 hits, 1 walk, 1 k. Gave up a double to Emilio Bonifacio in both the 1st and the 3rd innings, both of which were described as "Speed" doubles meaning he got the 2nd base on the OF. One run scored on a sac fly by Drew, another run scored on a double by Snyder.

The Arizona radio announcers made very positive comments about his pitches - location, movement, etc.

 

He only walked one guy in three innings. And he wasn't falling behind batters.

 

So, not too bad. Not well enough to get people over being nervous about him, but that will take a stellar year to overcome.

 

I was impressed at how he got out of 2 on (BB, HBP) - no out jam in the second without damage. That was the type of situation where he would have pressed and gone belly up in the past.

Spring games tend to be like AAA games though. A lot of at bats by guys who won't be on the 25 man til August or Sept.

I have a tough time believing that Bonifacio, Burke, Salazar, Hammock and Ojeda are guys who will start or be on the 25 for the DBacks.

Actually Balta its the opposite. Early on with the split squads and the large contingent you see a lot of scrubs after the first time through the order. Later on when they thin out the rosters a bit is when you see the starters going deeper into the games.

The thing about the DBacks is that most of their roster have only been in the majors for three seasons or less. So, they tend to make more mistakes than a veteran team would.

Yeah that was a terrible lineup Floyd was facing today. The two best players (Drew, Upton) had limited ML experience. Bonifacio is a decent MIF prospect, i suppose. He drew lots of praise in the DWL this year, but hasn't even hit AAA yet. Then all you had was a platoon player (Nixon) and a utility player (Ojeda). I guess the D'backs gave their guys the weekend off.
