What kind of play was Davidson trying to run at the end there? Curry was just supposed to create his own 3 while being double-teamed?

Damn. Well Mr. Curry, thanks for making the 2008 NCAA Tournament something to watch. Too bad he couldn't hit a couple more shots in the 2nd half.

 

Oh and thank you Bill Self. You prove yet again that even with the most talented roster in the entire nation, you lack the coaching IQ to understand the strengths of your team and the weaknesses of your opponent. It was a good game and at the end of the day they got the W, but damn this game should have been a 10-15 pt blow out with the size they have.

BTW, Davidson scored 6 points after that terrible timeout. As my brother just informed me, they had a TV timeout coming at the next dead ball also.

They ran a high pick for him with the idea being that he can shoot it coming off of the pick. But there isn't a chance in hell Kansas or any team is going to allow that to happen in that situation and the guy setting the pick really wasn't a good shooter so I didn't really get the call.

Self outcoached McKillop big time down the stretch, especially as he kept Kaun and Collins in the game more than usual.

I couldn't believe that timeout either. Seriously what the hell are you thinking you are up four with momentum and the ball and it wasn't like his team was having a bad possession because Curry had just started to bring the ball up.

The "well Self hasn't been to the final 4" defense of Bruce Weber is dead, thank God. McKillop might have lost this game though, he takes that hot shooting kid out of the game with 5 minutes left AND puts Richards at the 2 at the end? Terrible. There is a reason that Richards leads the nation in dimes (he passes to Curry who is off the ball), and that's beside the point that the whole reason Curry is at Davidson and not North Carolina is he can't get his own shot or create for others, especially in a 1-4 set.

This may have been mentioned but the one thing I thought was really cool about Davidson in the regional was...

 

The school paid for any student that wanted to go. They paid for their ticket, a bus to Detroit and hotel for two nights. Obviously being such a small school allows them to do so, but I have never heard of a school basically providing the whole trip to any student that wanted to go.

 

Nice move by the Davidson administration.
