I just purchased a 61" Samsung 1080p DLP HDTV , along with a Wii. I finally got a psp with a few games. I have had a sidekick LX for a few months now ( I have had almost every version of the sidekick since the 1st one came out in 2003) . I have had an Ipod nano for about a year and 1/2. My laptop is just a Dell lattitude d600 , it's ok for what I do for work. I used to do netflix and even tried blockbuster. I have little time now, with everything else going on in my life. Redbox works good for me a couple times a month for $1 . Besides going to the gym and sleeping, I am probably by one of these technology items 90% of the day. On a sidenote, It has crossed my mind that I might be exposed to a little too much technology. I hope it won't cause any future health risks or ramifications.

I would say having a blue ray player with no HDTV qualifies me.

No, this was actually an interesting study in marketing. By almost all independent accounts, Beta offered the better picture quality, but did not have the recording time of VHS. One hour versus two hours. Since you could fit two hours of recording on the VHS, it fit movies better and really helped to kill the market. Beta was first in the market and offered a better picture, but failed. It was also Sony (Beta) vs. JVC/Matus***a (VHS) which also pointed to a victory for Beta.

 

So when it first came out, it was the only option, and people loved it. They did not love the $1,000+ price tag for a home recorder, but they loved the tech. Even a year or so later when VHS came out, people didn't laugh at the Beta format. That really started several years later.

The only way to really watch Deep Throat as it was truly intended is on the ol' Betamax, Baby.

 

 

Up in an attic at my folks' place in Chicago I still have 8-track versions of Hendrix' Smash Hits, Led Zeppelin II, Zappa's Over-Nite Sensation, Deep Purple's Made in Europe live album, Three Dog Night's Greatest Friggin' Hits, and the Grease and Jesus Christ Superstar soundtracks. The Zappa tape is one of a handful of commercial titled actually released in quadraphonic stereo, so it represents the nexus between two DOA dinosaur technologies and so of course I'm very proud of it.

My family tells a tragic tale from way back in the early eighties, before I was born. Seems a certain family member had an extensive collection of classic rock on 8-track tapes, and some not so classic 8-tracks that were received as gifts by well meaning, but ultimately tasteless relatives. During a garage sale, the family member reached into the crap box and tried selling a couple dozen crap disco stuff for $2.00 each to the unsuspecting public. His ever helpful mother, when these are not selling, (duh) takes boxes of his 8-tracks and begins selling them for .25 or 5/$1. In the end, that music collection of several hundred titles, was reduced to a handful of dirty, tattered, dollar bills that served little comfort. He never recovered, and to this day, whenever some vintage Head East or Jeff Beck is played, you can see the tears well in his eyes.

Sweet! That will be a nice upgrade to the Commodore Vic-20 the same family member lost via the same avenue. A mint, still in the box, unused, Vic 20 that recently sold on a large auction site for many. many times, the original price.
