Flash Tizzle
Offense shut out. Three hits. Unfortunately, it's difficult to win many games in this manner. Great performance from Danks. As with any starter, they're pitching under pressure to throw shutouts from the 1st inning on.
lord chas
very dissapointing to see the division there for the taking and this horsecrap offense screws it up. cant believe that greg walker can cash his checks with a straight face

Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 14, 2008 -> 05:23 AM) in before the "Fire walker" posts start coming, even though we had 14 hits and 7 runs yesterday You're right. That random loss in the middle of May where the offense showed slight life against a nobody completely redeems Walker.
Chisoxfn
Aside from the piss poor job he did holding runners, Danks was fantastic. Hell of an outing boy. I won't even speak of the offense. My f***ing word, what a joke. I don't blame Greg Walker, but like I said last year at one point and I will say again this year, you can't fire the entire offense but somehow you have to send a message and that means firing Greg Walker. Jordan4life_2007
I still can't bring myself to blame Greg Walker. I could see if we were talking about a bunch of young guys. But that's definitely not the case. Hiring a new hitting coach won't in any shape, or form, get these guys to hit.

Jordan4life_2007
So what genius hitting coach are we supposed to aquire to get career-long bums like Jim Thome and Paul Konerko to hit?

Why not try a new hitting coach? If this isn't the time to dump Walker for underperforming, when is? How do you judge the effectiveness of a hitting coach? Chisoxfn
Look, I'm not saying Walker is the problem. I happen to think he's a solid hitting coach, but apparently he isn't getting through to a lot of the hitters. The Sox hitters are veterans and since you can't just unload half of the lineup (even though I wouldn't be opposed to doing such) the next best thing you can do is put the onus on the players by saying well we fired our hitting coach and if this new guy doesn't wake you guys up than you will be next. Bottom line at some point you have to be responsible for an utter lack of production and while I don't think Walker is at fault, the Sox hitters are way too comfortable and since you can't dump everyone, firing the hitting coach should send a memo down to the clubhouse. You also do it now because you can than have a couple month span to see what changes and if the hitters don't improve you start clearing them out of the way at the trade deadline. Jordan4life_2007
Bearsox, it was sarcasm. The point was how is Greg Walker responsible for two proven hitters (one being a potential HOF) sucking so badly.
LVSoxFan
What's the quote about insanity being doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results? Second half '06: dismal. All of 2007, worst hitting team in BASEBALL. First two months in '08? What are we waiting for? It's time to get to the problem with subtraction: dump Walker. If the players STILL suck after a couple of months of a new guy, dump THEM. But for God's sake do something. I think everybody just cruises along because they know that Kenny Wannestadt and Enabler Ozzie won't do anything to them. Actually, isn't it about time for KW to smash up some clubhouse card tables? He put this team together. In Ozzie's defense, he can only work with what he's given.
BearSox
Look, I know odds are it isn't Walker's fault, but moreso the players' fault. But, like someone else stated, you can't fire 12-13 hitters, but you can fire a hitting coach. When you have the worst offense in baseball for well over a year now, dating back to the second half of 06, a change has to be made. An example needs to be made, and Walker is the guy you do that with. It has happened before where teams struggling on offense get their hitting coach fired, a new guy is brought in, and they start hitting. It could be a mental thing with the hitting coach for all I know. But something has to be done, and it makes a whole lot more sense to make the change with the hitting coach before you do so with eating tens of millions of dollars with some of these player.
