He has whiffed at least once in each of the seven games he's played since returning.

Absolutely not. He can still be dealt, as we've seen Uribe at 3rd the last few games and hitting well. I wouldn't be at all surprised to still see Fields dealt while Crede is on the DL.

I think that depends on the length of Crede's DL stay. If its just 15 days and looks like no biggie (for this season), I think you're right. If they think this will be an issue where Crede isn't healthy the rest of the season, then I don't see the Sox dealing Fields, unless they acquire another 3B. I really doubt they want Uribe at third headed towards the post-season.

Hopefully Fields will play and return to the form of last year. Hopefully his bad ML numbers are a result of him being bored down there after proving he could play in the bigs. Put him in the lineup and produce, Josh.

That's what I am hoping was the case with him this year too, because his numbers have been very uninspiring down there

I doubt it. This is not good... although I guess in the big picture it doesn't matter a whole lot, eh? Will it diminish his "sandwich pick" value?

It shouldn't impact it. The reality is Crede will likely garner type B compensation (not A as many people indicate). Although he's clearly going to be one of the two best 3rd baseman available in FA (Troy Glaus being the other). Glaus is the superior offensive player, Crede the superior defensive player.

I think as long as he doesn't spend the rest of the season on the DL and finishes with an OPS somewhere around .800 he should be a type B free agent. With how poor his defense has been and how his numbers have nose dived his small chance of becoming a Type A is all but gone.

Oh believe me, I know. I've been saying it for about year now. 2008 would have to be an absolute monster season for Crede to be a type A free agent, like a .950 OPS stud defense kind of season.

The one question is whether the Sox would risk offering Uribe arbitration. If they do he's going to get probably something like 4-6 million and obviously has no starting spot. If the Sox don't think he'd come back to play on the bench than its a good move, but if Uribe doesn't get a multi year or starting offer the Sox could get screwed.

 

On a side-note, anyone think Crede's injury has something to do with the Uribe to Boston talks falling apart. With Crede down with injury, Uribe's ability to handle 3B becomes much more important.
