Paulie was banged up all season and finally got healthy. He's still an offensive force in the major leagues, not the washed up .200 hitter a lot of people thought.

I'm happy he's turned it around and I was rooting for him to do so, and didn't bash him. However, I will not eat crow for wanting him to be benched. He sucked for an extended period of time and it was killing the team both offensively and defensively. It's totally understandable why so many people were upset. But from here through the rest of the season, none of that matters.

 

well said. Paulie has pretty much sucked for a season and a half. He's getting paid millions, he's a big boy and should take some grief when he's underperforming so badly. but let's move on.

well for 12 million a year I wouldn't be happy about playing well for a month. he is suppose to be a superstar. I am not happy with a 240 hitter.

I didn't think that Paulie's career was over, but I wouldn't have been patient enough to play him through all of his struggles.... I'll eat some crow.

I didn't realize that I never actually posted in this thread. That's probably because I was irritated that a guy started a positive thread for a specific purpose and everybody still wanted to jump in to get their b****ing out of the way.

From 2004-2005, he hit around 80 HR, driving in around 220 RBI, with a .280 BA and a .365 OBP.

re: 2002 -- an .850-some OPS is not "superstar-esque," especially not at the Cell. And 2006 was, IMO, his career-year and that year wasn't even "superstar-esque."

A superstar is somebody like A-Rod, Junior, Pujols, Frank Thomas, and so on. Guys who make the All-Star game, win MVPs. Paul Konerko has a solid .841 career OPS. That's good, but not great. If it's over .900, now we're talking.
