April 12, 200916 yr Not being able to see? Really? Quentin saw Humber's pitch pretty well to hit in the bullpen.
April 12, 200916 yr Alexei with two hits. Quentin had two hits. Corky freakin' Miller had two hits. Bartolo pitched well with the aid of his high-80s fastball. If this was July and the Twins had Mauer, this game might have been a little different. But a win's a win and at least we know Bartolo can pitch. BTW, I liked Lillibridge (good patience at the plate, put down a good bunt) and Fields continues to impress. Corky is halfway there to matching Toby Hall's total 2007 offensive output.
April 12, 200916 yr QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) Corky is halfway there to matching Toby Hall's total 2007 offensive output. It was his first multi-hit game in the majors since Sept. 2003 against the Cubs.
April 12, 200916 yr QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 06:52 PM) Good job from the offense. This obviously isn't the same Liriano of the past. In fact, he looks rather mediocre now. I guess it won't difficult anymore to answer the question of"Where's our Liriano," because it seems he has become a #3/#4 starter with 6 mph knocked off his fastball. Our Liriano is named John Danks. Except our Liriano's doin' a little better.
April 12, 200916 yr I don't mind the all righty lineup thought it was curious timing , but thats why they play the games. Gonna need contributions from everyone. It's a long season. Is that enough cliches for everyone ?
April 12, 200916 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) If this was July and the Twins had Mauer What's this supposed to mean? It wasn't July when they scored 12 runs Friday. And as good as Mauer is, I feel safe in saying his presence in the lineup yesterday wouldn't have mattered much. Bartolo got the job done. End of story.
April 12, 200916 yr "Well, obviously, he's not throwing with the same velocity he used to throw," said Minnesota catcher Mike Redmond.... "With cold weather and not being able to see, it could be a different story down the road. Today he did his job." Ever notice the Twins have a lot of quotes like this? They are ornery pricks much of the time. Is Corky capable of getting a couple hits in a single game a lot? Nice to see AJ get a rest and have his replacement get 2 hits.
April 12, 200916 yr Also found it funny that only the Twins played in cold weather Saturday... and only the sun was around for them. Weird how that works.
April 12, 200916 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) Most people said Bartolo was low 90's for at least a chunk of the day, Farmer said he topped out at 93. The radar gun had AJ`s tossbacks at 105, so I wouldn`t put to much stock in those 90+ readings, but he did pitch well.

Mediocre? yeah, mediocre. hopefully he's just as mediocre when he faces the Sox in July.
April 12, 200916 yr QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 05:37 AM) second half of last year...2.74 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, K/9 of almost 9, K/BB of 3? Mediocre? yeah, mediocre. hopefully he's just as mediocre when he faces the Sox in July. First off, without the additional velocity he 'looks' mediocre. This obviously isn't the same pitcher of the past. Our team doesn't hit around 2006 Liriano like this. Secondly, unless FOX had issues with the radar readout he never exceeded 91mph. Last season he was consistently around 94-95 in the second half.
April 13, 200916 yr Liriano is still good, real good... but no you'll never get 2006 Liriano again. His pitches don't have as much movement, he doesn't have that same amazing sliders he did before. Still REAL good, but yeah not the Liriano of old.
