June 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) I laugh at some of the people in this thread pretending to be experts and saying it's inexcuseable to pass on a certain guy. It's the freaking MLB draft and we had the 23rd pick in the first round! None of you have any f***ing idea who is going to be good and who isn't in this draft, even the scouts who have seen these guys hundreds of times aren't entirely sure. We took a guy who is by all accouts a superb athlete with great talent who could turn out to be a star once he focuses on baseball entirely. Give me a break with the ripping of the pick when you have no idea yourself how it will turn out. It's not like we took some guy projected to go in the 30th round. +1
June 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Because they aren't as good as the people masquarading as experts around here think they are? Either that or signability I'd assume. Might be signability on Brothers, in Scheppers case he had a serious injury and signing issues. No one in there right minds would tell you that a healthy Scheppers isn't one of the 3 or 4 best arms in the entire draft.
June 10, 200916 yr I'll always favor pitching over anything. But if we weren't going to draft pitching, I'm real glad to take a guy like Mitchell who has a ton of upside and has real good tools including excellent speed. Like the pick right now, will love it if we some how can scoop up Scheppers or Brothers here with 38.
June 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Heckathorn is my projection for #38 Not a bad guess. I expect a college righty.
June 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) Heckathorn is my projection for #38 I like that. Heckathorn is a hell of a pitcher. I'm all for it. (assuming Brothers is gone.)

June 10, 200916 yr OILCAN IS DRAFT!!! No seriously. Good pick by the Pale Hose. I remember two years ago when they selected Aaron Poreda, that a lot of people were bashing the pick. Hmmmmm.....someone pull the tape!
June 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) Heckathorn is my projection for #38 I'm thinking we pick someone no one would expect. Does KW have a nephew or something in college?
June 10, 200916 yr Since I don't have a draft tracker, whose on the clock now? And is there going to be a break at all? I want to know if I have time to drive home or if I should stay a little late to catch the Sox pick.

June 10, 200916 yr Let's try to get a consensus comp for Mitchell. We talking Granderson, Crawford, what?
June 10, 200916 yr i admittedly know jack s*** about these guys, but what i do know is that mitchell was ranked by many experts to be ranked behind several guys that were available....i also am always concerned when the best tool a guy has is his speed...though i will admit i love the fact that he drew 52 BBs this year

I want to know if I have time to drive home or if I should stay a little late to catch the Sox pick. End of the 1st rd, there will be a 15 minute break before the compensation rd begins. Order in the compensation rd is as follows: 33. Seattle Mariners (Raul Ibanez) 34. Colorado Rockies (Brian Fuentes) 35. Arizona Diamondbacks (Orlando Hudson) 36. Los Angeles Dodgers (Derek Lowe) 37. Toronto Blue Jays (A.J Burnett) 38. Chicago White Sox (Orlando Cabrera)

June 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) So is it a 12 or 15 minute break? Two guys said 12 and two said 15, haha. It started at 15, but when we posted it was down to 12 already.
June 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) Let's try to get a consensus comp for Mitchell. We talking Granderson, Crawford, what? Best Case Scenario: Carl Crawford with a bit more power Worst Case Scenario: Jerry Owens
June 10, 200916 yr I actually like the pick. Its really up to Buddy Bell to clean up his swing a bit, and to move him into CF. In the late first round, I would rather get a guy who can project than a safe pick. Good job. Now lets keep loading up.
