James Gandolfini -- who famously played Tony Soprano on "The Sopranos" -- reportedly died earlier today in Italy ... TMZ has learned.

 

Gandolfini is believed to have suffered a heart attack, this according to Deadline.com. He was 51.

He was my favorite character on that show. Very sad.

He was one of the main characters, yes.

This is a little bit putting the cart before the horse, but its amazing that in this day and age people are still mixing alcohol and painkillers.

 

Its one thing to purposefully kill yourself, its another to just be stupid about drugs.

He has said he's dealt with addiction since he was 13. Addiction is a tricky disease and this is always a potential end result

Dang, that's sad. I actually got to know him a little bit years ago when I worked at a local country club. He had a place in Michigan, and used to come out and golf a lot. Really nice guy. RIP.
