July 1, 200916 yr The game has been called in the top of the 7th, final score 11-4. Beckham Getz Nix Konerko Strawberry Fields
July 1, 200916 yr It was personally rewarding for me to see us hit up Cliff Lee so bad after having to watch him shut us out in person last September.
July 1, 200916 yr Dye and Beckham are both on incredible tears right now, and Getz has been red hot the last 3 games. Richard I thought was encouraging tonight overall, and Jayson Nix is starting to look like a useful utility player. Nice win.
July 1, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) I almost forgot, this win puts the Sox over .500 wow - i can't believe we ALL forgot about that in the Slayer-Love
July 1, 200916 yr QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) Is it too soon to want to see Nix in LF with Pods in CF? Yes.
July 1, 200916 yr QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) Yes. why? I'll take my chances with Nix in the lineup as oppossed to Anderson or Wise. First off, even when Quentin returns, Podsednik will move to CF anyway. Second off, Nix has more potential for us then both Anderson and Wise. If Nix can show he can play a decent OF, he'd be a much better option in our lineup. He is really earning a shot at getting consistent AB's. Edited July 1, 200916 yr by BearSox
July 1, 200916 yr Clayton sure looks decent as a backend (5th spot is where I think he fits) starter. He gave up some runs tonight but overal was steady. I expect his ERA will go down with time if he spots his pitches a little bit more. The offense clicked again. And yes Paulie/Slayer are on a tear!!!!!!!

We have no idea if he's any good in LF.

Obviously that is something to be determined by the coaches by watching him in practice and giving him a lot of practice out there. And honeslty, can you tell me that right now he isn't the better option of Anderson and Wise in the lineup? I'd really like to see what Nix can do with consistent AB's.
July 1, 200916 yr I'm personally terrified of Pods in center. I think defense is so bad for this team already.
July 1, 200916 yr In fact, if Alexei doesnt fix some of that shortstop play, you have to start hoping for more starts there for Nix.
July 1, 200916 yr QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:49 AM) In fact, if Alexei doesnt fix some of that shortstop play, you have to start hoping for more starts there for Nix. It boggles my mind why people want to bench Alexei so bad even though his bat has been awesome lately. Deal with the defense he makes enough steller plays that shouldnt be made to make up for the plays he has brain cramps on.

With the kind of pitchers we have, we need the absolute best handling the ground balls. We are the leader (or amongst them) in giving up unearned runs. So like I said, we wait and see - but lately he's committed some costly errors. So far, 10 E... and his fielding PCT is .007 away from being the ML worst. Half a year is not indicative of everything, but to me he's a 2b. We'll see. Edited July 1, 200916 yr by Princess Dye

I agree, but Alexei still can be on the field at 2b. the report on Nix has been that he's a defensive shortstop foremost. Right now his OBP is none too shabby. We'll have to see if Getz keeps up his production as that factors in. Keep in mind, if we had strikeout starting pitchers, i would be a little less worried about this. But that league lead in unearned runs really has to change.
