It doesn’t work like that. Just because you’re expected not to suck, and then suck, doesn’t necessitate some kind of miraculous reversal of fortune the same year. There’s a decent chance that these guys will pitch better, but likely not at all enough to make any meaningful headway while being 8.5 games behind a superior team.

It would be nice to see Kenny go out and make a move to help us first. We need a 3B and some IF help in general. Ty Wigginton is making very little and shouldn't cost a bunch in trade even though he's really hitting. The O's are done and would be willing to listen for sure. Just a little move like that would show the players and fans we're not ready to give up just yet, and who knows, maybe something like that could go a long way.

We won't make the playoffs for another 10 years, time to clean house now and work on building the farm back up because there is nothing there. Goodbye Ozzie, Goodbye Kenny, Goodbye overpriced-under performing veterans and Goodbye young guys that the organization has completely ruined already.

It took us 3 years to get to the playoffs again after the White Flag trade and 8 to win a World series. Impossible to tell what's going on that far into the future.

 

Absolutely. JR and Kenny could sell off every veteran on the roster for prospects and they would still have a really good shot at winning the Central 4-5 years down the road.

With this mini run we're having now and upcoming games against the NL I can easily see the Sox around .500 at the AS break. If the pitching comes around and we make a tweak that pays off as you suggested the season could produce a lot of excitement. The drama need to end so firing Ozzie should be highly considered.

If draft to pros was as fast in MLB as it is in NHL (or NFL or NBA), I could see how the Blackhawks could "have one over" on the Sox when it comes to rebuilding. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as quickly in MLB without a lot more work and a giant sell-off of very talented guys (see the Marlins and their fan alienation).

 

If the Sox stick to their scouting and drafting style of the last 3 years, the minor leagues will get much better and rebuilding can be a reality.
