You (or whoever brought it up initially) advocated putting Viciedo into the lineup at the start of the bottom of the second. Either way, pinch hitting in the 4th is still dumb.

 

I suggested putting Viciedo in for Kotsay at DH. So, having him hit the next time Kotsay is scheduled, which turned out to be the 4th. I knew that wouldn't happen. Ozzie is not going to make that move. I see that you've called it dumb, and other people suggest that "you don't do that." But I don't see any reasoning behind the comments.

Gorz would look good in our bullpen.

Hendry did a hell of a job of getting Gorzelanny as a throw-in in the Grabow deal last year.

He started few games early in the season, Im sure he can go the distance.

I suggested putting Viciedo in for Kotsay at DH. So, having him hit the next time Kotsay is scheduled, which turned out to be the 4th. I knew that wouldn't happen. Ozzie is not going to make that move. I see that you've called it dumb, and other people suggest that "you don't do that." But I don't see any reasoning behind the comments.

 

It's a 4 run game, for one. You don't pull your starters with a four run lead this early.

 

Secondly, as greg mentioned, it shows up your players.

Because you just don't do it in baseball.

You lose the entire team as a manager. You become a clown.

If a player starts a game and prepares to start the game mentally, you don't yank him because the other team now has a lefty starter.

The fourth inning is too early to make substitutions like that.

It's like Kotsay and the team would say, "WTF, what did I do??"

He last threw 110 pitches on May 26. Since then he's appeared in 5 ballgames, throwing 14, 19, 19, 10, and 6 pitches. The 6 pitches was on June 24.
