I was Smoak's biggest fan coming out and I still like him, but he has some huge concerns to answer. 1.) he can't hit the breaking ball at all. He can mash most fastballs, but that won't matter if he doesn't learn how to hit the breaking ball. 2.) as fathom pointed out, Smoak is awful as a right handed hitter, so bad that the rangers would rather have Joaguin Arias play 1B for them vs. lefties. 3.) for someone as good as Lee for a team that is making one of its greatest playoff pushes ever, first dibs on him in FA, and no matter what a guaranteed 2 draft picks... you give up someone with as many question marks as Smoak for him.
