Top 5 moments of the first half

Featured Replies

Unlike last year, where I think an Alexei Ramirez opposite field single was considered one of the top highlights of the first half of this season, there's a lot to choose from this season. Here's my top 5 so far:

5. Jake Peavy shutout to beat Nationals 1-0

4. John Danks 2 hit shutout vs Angels to win 1-0

3. Konerko 8th inning homer/Thornton induces DP in the 9th to beat Cubs and run streak to 11 games

2. Opening day (home runs, Buehrle defensive play)

1. Alex Rios walkoff homer to beat the Mariners

A prediction for the top plays of the second half will not include:

- Dayan Viciedo's first MLB walk

- Juan Pierre hits the ball into the outfield

- Jake Peavy Promotion where first 10,000 fans receive part of his back muscle

- Ramon Castro Prison Suit Night

- Randy Williams exciting recall to the majors!

You've completely forgotten the re-emergence of the Lillibomb, but you're forgiven on that one.

Make a good list, I'll make a montage of this if you all would like. :)

It's really hard to beat opening day.

Quentin's grand slam yesterday is near the top of the list for me. It was then when if you wondered if he was back before that atbat, he wanted to answer you on the first pitch.

1) Randy Williams being sent down

2-5) Pick and choose.

Possible Candidates

- Opening Day (Mark Buehrle's flip play, Rios' diving catch)

- vs. Toronto (Mark Teahen's home run to tie it, double to give us the lead)

- Seattle series (Andruw's walk-off, Rios' walk-off, Konerko's go ahead homer)

- vs. Tampa Bay (Nix's grand slam)

- vs. Cleveland (Come back win, might have been the source of streak)

- vs. Detroit (LilliBOMB)

- vs. Washington (Rios' go-ahead single in Strasburg game, Peavy's shutout)

- vs. Atlanta (Quentin's three home runs, Konerko's go ahead in game 3)

- vs. Cubs (Quentin's 3 run homer in game 1, Konerko's go ahead homer in game 2)

- vs. Rangers (Mark Klutchsay, Alexei's go-ahead homer in game 3)

- vs. Angels (Q's bombs vs. Kazmir and co., Danks' shutout).

- vs. Royals (Q's 4 home runs in 2 games, Andruw's 400th).

Got anymore?

1. The entire opening day experience.

2. Paul Konerko's 8th inning home run to lift us to a sweep over Atlanta, because it's the first time I started to believe this team was actually good.

3. The 15-3 win against Detroit on June 9th. The Hawks won the Cup that night, and the 25-5 run also started that night. Almost as if the torch of excellence in Chicago sports was passed.

4. The entire first half for Paul Konerko and Alex Rios. As deep as the hole was at 24-33, it'd have been even deeper without those two doing their thing.

5. Coming back from 6-2 down against Cleveland to avoid being swept on June 6th. I think this was an overlooked moment, because you could argue this is when the run really started. You could also argue that the only reason this isn't THE moment we look back on is a rare Thornton explosion to blow the opener of the Detroit series a couple nights later. But I still think this game was key, maybe our biggest win of the season.

Hands down to me was the Rios homer. I still watch it on replay, I loved AAArdsma's reaction immediately after contact was made...

how about santos awesome start to his rookie season

opening day for me

- Ramon Castro Prison Suit Night

Eh?

I'm going with Buehrle's flip play. That will be on the opening jumbotron film next year for sure.

Santos striking out Cabrera to end the 8th inning against Detroit with the bases loaded and a 1-0 lead in the final game of that series.
