This is just stupid logic. Yeah, odds are your 4 and 5 hitters will wind up batting with the most runners on, but they also bat behind the 3 hole hitter (and 4 hole for the 5th hitter).

 

Your best 2 hitters should be 3 and 4, where they get the most AB's possible. Its the duty of the 1 and 2 guys to get on base.

 

Why wouldn't you guarantee one of your best hitters an AB in the first inning?

 

This is not stupid logic, this has been proven by decades of play by play data.
