August 1, 200322 yr kevin appier was released by the angels yesterday i think he is our solution to the 5th starter thing. is he expensive, is he a free agent after this year?
August 1, 200322 yr He has another year on his contract with the Angels and the Angels will be paying him around 15.5 million over the next two seasons. All the White Sox have to do is pay the league minimum over the next two years. Appier was injured with the Angels so I don't think he'd be able to make an immediate impact and I don't think he is a better pitcher then Danny Wright. Both have control problems but Wright has far superior stuff when compared with Kevin Appier at this stage in his career. I'd pass on him unless Wright proves horrid in the next two starts and I think Wright will surprise some of you.
August 1, 200322 yr I thought someone looked at the numbers and said Appier shouldnt be the solution to the 5th starter controversy. Chances are Wright will get the nod during the Seattle series. When the day arrives for Wright, lets hope we can support him with.........10 or 11 runs.
August 1, 200322 yr Here's the easy answer, as I see it... No f***ing way. short, succinct, and right on
August 1, 200322 yr I don't understand waivers but if the Sox only need to pay him league minimum for the next 2 years, I'd get him. Even if he is worthless this year and Wright or Cotts is the number 5 starter we might have a real bargain of a pitcher next year. If he stinks, the Sox would be out league minimum. I think it is worth the gamble. Could there be other quality players available off of waivers? Does anyone know what the priority order is and where the Sox fit in. In other words, how many teams would have to pass on a player before the Sox get a chance. How do trades fit in? I heard the Padres might still get Giles through a trade because they are first on the waiver list. I google searched for answers but I came up empty. If anybody knows a good web site to explain this stuff I'd appreciate it. Go White Sox!

August 1, 200322 yr I agree on giving Dan Wright another shot. He's been pitching very well in the minors of late. He does have a good history against the Mariners. Man if we can get the Dan Wright who finished the season strong last year. That would all but guarantee us a playoff spot...I say go after Appier only if he comes cheap. He was released for a reason...
