March 3, 201115 yr I know quite a few people who picked up hitting lefty because it helped with their mechanics. They were able to teach their body the correct way to swing from the left side and it would either be a fresh break from the wrong mechanics from the right side or would help them get over bad mechanics.

Yeah there are lots of reasons someone would be hitting left handed. Considering his hand-eye coordination, it really shouldn't surprise anyone that Alexei is hitting left handed, and considering his overall talent level, it shouldn't surprise you that he's hitting well (I would assume that is relative to what one would expect). Hitting in a manner in which you are not comfortable like that forces you to slow down and think about every step of the process. You do it a few times until he becomes a bit of a habit, and then you take it to the other side of the plate.
